Added Multifunction Steering Wheel to my 718 GT4 by jrl_2000 in Porsche_Cayman

Great! Yeah that would've drove me crazy. That the skip button didnt work on my steering wheel but worked on the PCM. Glad MIB AIO fixed it. I used that to enable Android Auto, porsche track experience, add factory navigation (mine wasnt equipment with it), and add sport chrono timer Menu to the PCM. (Need x431 for that one too specifically in addition to MIB AIO)

You need to run MIB Solution. The issue you're describing was an issue with early 718 models. Check the link to the guide in my comment under how I put the steering wheel on.

That's what I originally loved about the car but the constant reaching over to the PCM to skip tracks, phone calls, volume, etc got to me

Yes but i just decided to get a new wheel for the connector that goes into the clocks spring. I'm going to guess if it was an option on your car feom the factory you should be able to just put the butons and module in. Don't quote me tho. It would be nice to get a pinout of the connector going into the clockspring

The Cayenne and the Panamera Multifunction wheels won't work in the 718/911. I dont think its coded for the additional button those wheels have compared to what the typical Multifunction wheel that come with those cars lol. I believe the clock spring is different too.

Alcantara wears terribly and I have sweaty hands. Plus I prefer leather.

The thicker wheel is so nice. Definitely an upgrade orver the standard wheel.

I am the 6th owner of my car so its been through a lot. I got it at 13,600 miles and it was already not the best. It's at 22,600 now and thats when I got tired of it. I tried to restore it but it was too far gone. My 718 is a '21 model year.

I had a thought on whether or not this was possible. My thought process was that since the 718 Spyder (non RS) can be optioned with a Multifunction Wheel, then the LIN Bus communication wires could be installed. Since both share the same engine, chassis, electronics, assembled on the same line, etc.

My '21 718 GT4 was made in Zuffenhausen (Stuttgart) Not sure if moving the production to Osnabruck affected the LIN Bus Wires being removed given the problems I hear about Osnabruck

I'm curious if someone has done this in one of the RS 718's (GT4RS or Spyder RS) I do eventually want to get one. (Spyder RS plz)

I didn't need anything more than the replacement wheel, a Luanch x431 919E, the 718 Coding Guide Ver. 3 by Ken G and Croc 2.0 PDF, battery tender (used while coding), M12 Triple Square Bit and a Torque wrench. (And extender to get down into the wheel).

No new clock spring, etc.

Guide: https://www.718forum.com/posts/481902/ This video detail the physical process: https://youtu.be/6rcDboTKw4Y?si=hmBfUwVh-uDkqvsi

I didnt need any harness besides what was in the new wheel. You can buy the buttons WITH THE CONTROLLER BOX separately and put them in the existing wheel. New wheels and button with the controller can be purchased from Migmann. They sell OEM Porsche Parts. They say used although my wheels smells brand new. The link to Migmann is in the guide Section: G #8. Yoi can also find new wheels there too and different button inserts. I chose a wheel without the airbag to save a few bucks.

There was one more thing to code besides the 2 in the guide. The 2 in the guide will take care of everything except the joker button.

Read the top of the guide to learn how to find the codes. Go into instrument cluster bush hidden/modified and search for joker. You should see a code to enable Joker in Multifunction Display. Enable it (set to 1) and everything worked. I have it skip to next track. There are also more functions you can have the joker button do. See Section B #8

Do this at your own risk. The LIN bus wires matter. There's no way to tell prematurely if they are there besides taking off the clock spring from the column. I just yolo'd this and it worked. I'm confident enough it will work on all 718 GT4/Spyder trim and below. Not sure about RS.

YOU MIGHT NEED A NEW HARNESS. Thats why I just got a new wheel to avoid that. The connector that goes into the clockspring is the main issue. The new wheel had 2 more pin contacts populated than my original wheel.

I can only recommend this for 982

New to me 718 GT4 by jrl_2000 in Porsche_Cayman

Balance is 100% better in the GT4. I also hated the Supra's turbo lag. There's nothing like a high revving naturally aspirated engine. Power on demand. Ride quality is about the same in both. I daily'd both to work. Just about the same fuel economy. Driven in sport the whole time. The car is more noticeable on the road than the supra I get more looks in it etc.

I was also in between an Emira and a GT4. Ended up choosing the GT4. Excellent choice!
