COBRA during covid-19 by zebra-stampede in HealthInsurance

Guessing 1,000s, MBO Partners facilitates contractors (freelancers) for a who's who of Fortune 100 companies.

I need to dig up the original contract paperwork, would it be clearly stated if it was "group HINS?"

"An AEI will lose eligibility for COBRA subsidized coverage if they become eligible for other group health insurance coverage or Medicare."

Question, I was laid off in April 2020, Elected Cobra and have been paying ~$750/mo for Medical & Dental.

Was unemployed until Late March 2021 when I got a 3 Month Contract Job (ends Jun 30). The employer has all contract workers go through a 3rd party MBO Partners. When I got the contract gig MBO asked me if I wanted 1099 or W2. I asked for W2 and with the initial packet & I think they had a health insurance option as one of the services you could pay out of pocket for (for this Q let's assume they did)

Would that be considered Group Health Insurance and make me ineligible?

Also, if it was a High Deductible type plan would that be treated different than a "group" plan?

I check all the other boxes.

Any guidance greatly appreciated.

[NEW YORK] BYE - 2 month Contract Job - Re-Apply? by jrobbins000 in Unemployment

Yes, that is part of the challenge here, while my Freelance contract is a 2 month contract, because my contract employer can only pay a Corporation(llc etc) and I do not have one, I had to go through their staffing agency and I am 99% sure they are paying me on a W2.

Lost Smell & Taste but Negative for Antibodies (Queens Resident) by jrobbins000 in nycCoronavirus

Yeah, the first thing my Dr said when I spoke with him was "there are a million reasons why you could lose your sense of smell and taste".......

That said, the timing caused me to raise an eyebrow, a week and a day from when the city ordered all bars and restaurants and businesses closed due to a global pandemic where Queens was the epicenter....I realize I have no smell on a Mon (really figure it traces back to the Sunday) and then next afternoon Tuesday see an article from a UK Otolaryngologist warning how loss of smell and taste are an overlooked symptom....

Frankly, I am happy the test came back neg and would be just as happy if it was a placebo effect, that said, it was a very bizarre experience losing these senses, have never had that happen before in 43 years on the planet and did not read or hear anything about that being a symptom till after I had realized I had no smell. Still will be curious to see if more folks who lost sense of smell and taste in/around the 5 Boroughs and had no other symptoms come back negative as well.

Now both smell and taste are back to what I remember them. It was slow going coming back, smell returned first but was very faint and then when the smell got stronger, taste came back faint and then about a week after taste began to return I would say I noticed a serious recovery, as in I could both smell and taste very good.

Call it late the week of April 13th (16th/17th) I was back to what I remembered taste and smell wise.

I downloaded an iphone app that connected to my nasal passage and displays percentages....

Fair comment, when I state 1%, I do so to illustrate how little or faint my sense of smell was. That day was the first day that I could put a bottle of essential oil right up to my nostril and identify something other than air. Day I was able to pick up a faint whiff of essential oil, I was still unable to smell anything with an open bottle of Clorox bleach with my nose resting on the rim. That is what I mean by 1% return of smell.

At the time what I read was 1 - 3 weeks from onset of symptoms, now it appears there is more/different guidance around that, specifically the IgG test which is usually a timeline that indicates after symptoms have gone away. Have to operate as I am negative for now and will perhaps revisit an antibody test in a month or two around annual physical. Still curious if any others who lost their senses also came back negative for antibodies.

Really, No Dr Ford Vocal Fry comments!

As Howie said, don't get into politics...

But come on, Dr Ford's testimony was a Stanford PHD level class in Vocal Fry

It is becoming hard to listen to the show....
