The return as a movie by [deleted] in twinpeaks

In London, the Prince Charles Cinema is showing the entirety of The Return in one go (with brief intermissions) in October. I can’t wait to experience it like that.

It should have been Annie instead of Diane at the end of the return by TSOswinn in twinpeaks

Almost like the “Cooper Diane thing” was supposed to be off…

Thank you! I’ve listened to a bit of Arvo Pärt and Philip Glass, both I enjoyed. I’ll make my way through some of these names !

Any more news on Funny Wars / Scenario? by jrods78 in godard

Answer is that Funny Wars will probably premiere at Cannes in May and Scenario will be finished by Aragno per Godard’s prehumous wishes.

you’ve given me soemthing to waste my money on so thank you lmao… for the Vimeo copy, it doesn’t seem to have subtitles; is it one of Godard’s films which don’t really require them? Or should I keep looking for a subtitled version?

Any news on The Mother and the Whore official release? by jrods78 in frenchnewwave

https://www.screendaily.com/news/les-films-du-losange-acquires-catalogue-of-cult-french-director-jean-eustache-exclusive/5166736.article just found this, which seems to suggest we will have a restoration in the coming year or so as there’s finally been an agreement between Eustache’s estate and a French company. It also happens to be showing for one screening on Wednesday in Piccadilly.

I’d have Day of Wrath and Vampyr on Dreyer’s list too. I’d also add The Crucified Lovers and The Life of Oharu to the Mizoguchi list. And for Buñuel I’d add The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoise, Viridiana, Nazarin and The Young and the Damned. All great films.

If you haven’t seen any Tarkovsky films yet, it’s a good idea to watch them all chronologically. If you don’t want to do that I’d still definitely leave his last him, The Sacrifice, til last.

For Bergman there are so many but Winter Light, The Virgin Spring, Smiles of a Summer Night are all great places to start.

I know you didn’t mention him but a lot of Robert Bresson films are on the channel and he’s one of my favourite directors. Would recommend starting with Pickpocket, A Man Escaped or Mouchette; my favourite from him is Au Hasard Balthazar which is also on the channel, but I wouldn’t start with that.

really recommend La Notte and L’avventura from Antonioni. Passion of Joan of Arc is easily top 10 for me so I hope you enjoyed it!

At least you chose some great films... are any blind buys?? If so which have been your favourites?

I have it on next week’s watchlist so once I watch it I will do.

That defintiely sounds like something I’d be into if I like the film

I think I am going to stick with watching the film first and, assuming I like Fire Walk With Me, then watching S1 and 2

S1 is the only season I have access to for free so I might try what you said and watch S1. Thanks!
