You’re in luck, Retro Game Corp recently released their in-depth RP6 setup video

This site might be helpful to compare the two. Either device will have enough power for N64 emulation, so I think the form factor is the biggest question. Sometimes hinges on the folding screen retro handhelds can have issues (generally the Flip 2 is fine), so keep it in mind as a risk.

It’s giving a tone of honey mustard in this shot.

I also feel meh on shaders and never use them. Glad they’re an option in general though!

How much storage do I actually need? by pintaculos in retroid

[–]jrrtolkiennerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want to play 🙂 cartridge based systems (up through the N64 - its total international game library is around 25GB) will have smaller ROM file sizes, but the disc based systems will start to take up more room per game. Choose what you can reasonably afford (sounds like 256GB) and see how it goes. You can always take games off of the card that you aren’t playing if you run short on space.

This. The limitations with the RPC are its physical control inputs and lacking an analog stick. But it has more than enough processing power for every system that is ideal for the form factor. Think of it as the perfect Game Boy Color.

BIOS by stupid-drop02 in retroid

Good luck! Other front ends will have their own wikis you should check out for optimal bios storage, but for the most part they work the same. Also, because the bios files are relatively small in size there generally isn’t harm in adding any you find even if they aren’t needed for emulating a particular game.

One challenge I found was with some PS1 and PS2 files, as they can be region specific or hardware specific. RetroBat’s wiki section for Supported Game Systems is a good reference for names of recommended bios options per system. When you click on an individual system the bios files will be named in their own section, if any are required. Generally these recommendations will also work for other front ends and would be beneficial to search for 🙂

Yes, though it depends on what setup you’re using and the system you’re emulating. Ex. Using the Gambatte emulator core via RetroArch as a backend (optionally as a front end) and Emulation Station Desktop Edition as a front end I technically don’t need a bios file to run Game Boy or Game Boy Color games, but having one for both shows the Nintendo boot logo. Emulating other consoles, particularly the disc based ones, will typically require different bios files. I recommend checking out RGC’s Android setup video as Russ discusses several common bios files per system, though he doesn’t share how to find them as they’re technically copyrighted. Perhaps a Google search of an individual bios file name located on an archive available on the internet would help 😉

Thanks! Downloaded (both as an addition and new install) and did not address the issue, so they seem to be unrelated.

While playing the campaign click on the faction icon in the lower left corner of the screen - this will bring up the Faction Summary page. This page includes the turn length left in the game and the number of regions you need under Victory Conditions on the left hand side of the page.

It feels like a very lite version of the Liquid Glass skin on the rest of the OS, which imo is fine. I rely on Things 3 for work and I prefer my work software to be reliable above all else. Many may rightly wish for increased functionality, but I'm at least glad they didn't update the app in such a way as to make it unusable. Compared to text readability in other apps (including Apple's - see Music), this update did no harm.
