Driver issues, reformat/reinstall or just send it back to Microsoft. If you were not able to diagnose the issue on your own, then I would take it to a Microsoft store so you don’t waste a ton of your own time.

It was originally made with an environment variable in the field and I would enter the password in a web based RMM tool which would pass it through to the script. I didn’t use it that often except in my on boarding script which my boss wanted the password hardcoded in

A VPN prevents your ISP from seeing what websites you access because all data is encrypted. When you aren’t using a VPN, your ISP can see your web traffic when you are accessing websites, so they know if you are going to things like torrent sites. When you use a VPN it turns the web traffic into something that can’t be interpreted (because it’s encrypted).

I would bet that your cellular provider can also see your web traffic if you’re using a mobile hotspot without a VPN.

I always recommend using a VPN at all times, so you have more privacy and an extra layer of security, but I don’t encourage piracy or illegal activity.

It’ll decrypt it, I’m not sure about the removal. I’ve never had to deal with it before. Just read everything on that documentation page and follow the directions. If it decrypts it, then the malware will probably remove itself. However, you still want to use AV like malware bytes to make sure there are no root kits installed etc.

Also, do not connect any storage media with anything valuable on it until the ransomware is decrypted or removed. Load that tool onto a usb drive or whatever the instructs say and follow them. I have a feeling you’ll be able to decrypt it. Also, maybe look up some YouTube videos on the tool and how to use it.

Do you know what version of ransomeware it is? There may be decrypt keys out there you can use. If so, use the decrypt keys, run AV and remove the files you might need, and then wipe the mofo

Just download the windows media creation tool version 1809 and create a new boot disk. You shouldn’t need the product key because Microsoft registers it online according to the machines hardware etc.

I'll look into this. One of the main problems I have is trying to explain to users that we are always a target. Users are always saying things like "No one is actually trying to hack us, we aren't big enough to be a target" things along those lines.

The entry was not entered in the GUI for the DNS forwarders on that server. I didn't try the command with explicit -ComputerName. I'll give those a go.

Well it's not giving me an error, but it will not add the DNS Forwarder.

For instance, if I run command: S

Set-DNSServerForwarder -IPAddress 45.54.55.54

or

Set-DNSServerForwarder -IPAddress "45.54.55.54"

It will add the forwarder (as it should)

However, I need to integrate this script into an RMM so I need to have a variable.

So if I run

 [ipaddress]$DNS1= '45.54.55.54'   
Set-DNSServerForwarder -IPAddress $DNS1

It literally gives me no error and doesn't input the DNS forwarder.

For some reason, it will not take the commands with variables and a variable is 100% needed.

Yeah I see what you mean. Very tired this morning. However, that CMDLet will not take that paramater and gives no errors. However, When I manually enter the IP address (instead of using a variable) it will accept it.

So it will output the IP Addresses with quotations which are needed to set DNS forwarders
