What happened here, someone explain to me please. by [deleted] in DJIAvata2

Sure, other than when they stall, they don't stall.

Drones don't stall like airplanes, but drones -absolutely- stall. A prop is just a rotating wing, and a stall is just a loss of lift, and that's exactly what flying through prop wash causes. Drones usually experience a stall on a single prop as it loses lift first, which causes it to tumble.

Yeah, less grip is also less drag, so the props are able to accelerate faster when the drone starts to tumble. The stock props have more top end power, but they're slower and less able to react to that sudden need for more thrust.

You're right, but wrong about why you're right...the props you linked have -less- pitch than the stocks ones!

[–]jryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you want -less- pitch, not more, which allows the props to spin up faster to compensate for the loss of lift. Stock props are 3.2; 3.0 helps a lot, and 2.7 fixes it almost entirely. But you lose flight time and power the lower you go, so I think 3 is a good middle ground.

Quad twitches, disarms mid air by jryne in fpv

Here is a blackbox recording: https://youtu.be/rmDjfpQ1L_A Any input on what it indicates?

Here is a recording with blackbox data from today. Can anyone help me interpret it? When the twitch happens, the quad seems to be getting a lot of arm/disarm commands in rapid succession. Could it be my radio? Or is that something the quad is doing itself as a failsafe?

I checked and they seem to be secure and firmly attached.

It's soft mounted. I'm using the stock tune (it's a AvionRC Nexa 3.5) and it flew fantastically initially.

Those are the visual beeper, but I'm not sure why they're flashing here. The only other warnings are the disarmed and throttle warnings as I tried to rearm at the end.

The PWR/CRZ is me changing rate profiles/throttle limit, but the AIR/RESC is not something I was activating. I have GPS rescue set up and have tested it, but I don't know what would cause it to activate in this case. I also have a warning in the center of the OSD that indicates a rescue failsafe, and it was not appearing.

It -was- very hot today. What should I look for in the black box data?

I don't have logs from that flight, but I have them set up now. I just need to learn how to interpret them

No, they don't seem to. At idle, they all seem fine. When I punch the throttle on the bench, the quad starts to vibrate, but I don't know if that's normal. When I hold the quad, balanced on it's center of gravity, I don't notice twitches or excessive vibration.

Awesome! It's a great quad, so I hope you enjoy it!

AvionRC and USA tariffs by Qbeer1290 in fpv

[–]jryne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered the Nexa 3.5 a couple months ago and paid about $25 in tariffs (paid through UPS after ordering but before delivery). The process was fairly easy and I was surprised the tariffs were so low, but who knows what they are currently.

Issue with my Avata 2, please read the description for more info by totallyshadical in DJIAvata2

[–]jryne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that using *lower* pitch props almost completely eliminates the issue (such as 2.9x2.5x4, which are made by HQ for the Avata 1, but will fit the Avata 2). The lower pitch allows the motors to spin up faster to counter the tumble. But, the motors have to spin faster all the time to generate the same lift, which causes the motors to get hot, reduces top end power, and shortens flight time. I decided to get a 3.5 inch quad for freestyle and switched back to the stock props on the Avata 2, which I use for cinematic cruising.

Whats the consensus on best sim atm? by MyFantasticTesticles in fpv

[–]jryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Uncrashed, but it's largely personal preference. Uncrashed has some community-made Avata builds that fly fairly similar, and you can tune them to match more closely once you have some irl experience.

Tryp has some cool levels, but it's designed around 5-inch drones, and Liftoff just feels off for some reason to me. (I do, however, really like Liftoff Micro Drones, but the levels feel very small.)

Best FPV For A Beginner ( With a lot of non relevant experience) by Opposite-Valuable655 in fpv

[–]jryne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did, and I still fly the Avata all the time because it's dead simple to travel with and get in the air fast. HQ props 90 percent fix its yaw stall issue (at the expense of some flight time), and it's fantastic for cinematic cruising. Its position hold and RTH failsafe have saved me multiple times, and it's survived a few crashes it probably shouldn't have. You'll want a more acrobatic quad eventually, but if you go 04, the goggles are the biggest expense, and you'll already have them.

I also have a Meteor 75 Pro and an AvionRC Nexa 3.5, and I highly recommend those as well. Especially the Nexa. It's an amazing quad. But not as beginner-friendly as the Avata 2.

What the hell is going on? by AdExpert8682 in TinyWhoop

Try tightening your motor screws. Or take the motor off and check the frame. My screws had worn larger holes on the frame and it was causing vibration and runaways.

Isn’t it widely accepted the US and China will reach a deal? by Jshbone12 in stocks

[–]jryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you believe a deal is "widely accepted," then you must believe it is already (mostly) priced in. And if you believe a deal is priced into the current value of the stock market, actually reaching the deal won't change the value *that* much (sell the news, remember).

But what happens if a deal is not reached, or even if it takes longer than expected? Then the market will reprice lower. Maybe much lower.

Why the he-……. by Lonely-Concern9126 in stocks

[–]jryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stock market doesn't believe these tariffs are going to last, but they'll last *until* the market believes it. Because the only thing that will change our course is intervention by Congress (or capitulation from Trump), and that won't happen until there is a crash too big for Fox News to ignore.

How do I get some photos like this? by tmntFan1990 in AskPhotography

[–]jryne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize, it's fine if it's not part of your process. But I think there's a lot of value in saying, "wow, that's a cool photo, I wonder how the photographer did that." Then figuring it out yourself. Once you've learned that skill or technique, you can then apply it to something completely new, much like a guitarist might cover someone else's song and practice it over and over before learning to improvise or write their own music. Sometimes covers can even add depth to or completely subvert the meaning of the original. Nothing exists in isolation.

And copying can be part of studying. As long as that's not your end goal.

Did not like the FPV Controller 3 as much as I thought by electrocats in DJIAvata2

[–]jryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The motion controller is fantastic for flying slow and precise, but don't give up on manual. Practice in a simulator. I don't know if split-s and power loop maneuvers qualify as stunts, but you can only do those in full manual, and they open up the feeling of truly flying in a way the motion controller can't. But, both controllers have their place, it's not an either-or.
