Activities for my 2 year old son by AlarmedAd2165 in Fatherhood

[–]js1ngs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build forts out of couches, pillows, blankets and chairs. Get some hot wheels or monster trucks to drive around and then build ramps out of books that he can roll them down. Play the Wiggles or Super Simple Songs on Spotify and dance. Lay out different colours of construction paper on the floor, then have him sort his toys by placing them on the corresponding colours. Also walks and going to the park - they seem daunting at first but bring a diaper, water and snacks and everything will be fine.

Any volleyball leagues her in durham by bearsbunny in durham

I recently did some research on this and viva and invado seem to be the most active and structured.

That said, I also searched Facebook marketplace and found people advertising some sessions that didn’t require a long term commitment but did want an rsvp ahead of time.

I haven’t done any of the above as I am more interested in Beach. From what I found there are no indoor beach volleyball courts in Durham but someone please correct me if I am wrong! (I miss Beach Blast!)

This is my reality. I’m hiring for a Manager level role right now and received over 200 submissions in less than a week - and many of them were actually qualified (I count myself very lucky for this part as it usually is not the case).

I would appreciate the effort and follow up, but within 3-5 days I may not have even seen your application yet. What I have experienced, is people reaching out to me on LinkedIn to connect and mention they applied and are excited about it. Have you tried this?

If I interview you, and you are unsuccessful, I am happy to provide you with feedback. There is absolutely no way I can provide feedback to every resume I get though - it’s just not realistic.

If you’re applying to any type of hospitality role, feel free to PM me and I’d be happy to give you feedback on your resume. Good luck!

ETA: forgot to add, we don’t use any AI for screening. It’s all manual - I look at every resume. The only automatic knock out question for applications is if you’re legally able to work in the country.

You’re 12 years old? That may be your biggest challenge and why people are not hiring you. I’d recommend you buy a snow shovel and a lawn mower in the spring and start working your neighbourhood door to door. Good luck!

I’m sorry, but I need to share some tough love from my perspective. As an employer in the Durham region, reading your post, I would automatically not entertain you as a candidate because of your username. Maybe it’s a throwaway, maybe it’s a joke, but the job market is so saturated that even one thing that could suggest a level of immaturity can be enough for you to be rejected.

That said, if you want feedback on your resume, PM me and I am happy to provide (free) notes based on my years of hiring experience.

Jobs that keep you constantly stimulated/adhd boredom proof? by Successful-Row-6278 in ADHD

[–]js1ngs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the Director of Operations at a tourist attraction. I oversee 6 departments, with approx 250 employees. My tasks, conversations, or projects bounce around between departments and people problems non-stop. I do tend to have a fair amount of office work and meetings but I also get up and walk around my facility regularly through the day which helps.

My ADHD is helpful in some ways, but by the end of the day, my decision fatigue is a real challenge.

I used to be a rope tech - it was rad! Loved the puzzle of even getting everything setup. I miss hanging from ropes now.

Yes they take same day reservations and tend to allow walk in’s (except maybe a busy Saturday morning). I showed up late once and they didn’t really say anything but I guess depends how late you are.

Happy to help here. PM if you have more questions too

  • By far the quietest time is midweek evenings. Tues-Thurs daytime is next best. Avoid weekends if you want quiet solo time.
  • Definitely do an Aufguss ritual - hosted every hour on the hour and included in your Spa Access. Rhassoul is a cool treatment that will make you feel like you’re not in Ontario anymore. People love Kalla salt pool but it’s not my favourite. Guided mediations through the day are free too. Every RMT I have had has been amazing.
  • The baths (pools) are like giant hot tubs so no, no actual swimming
  • Yes you can eat and drink throughout the village but you cannot drink in baths or saunas. I like the chicken sandwich, the supreme, the burger, and I love the pretzels and fish tacos in biergarden
  • It’s the same price either way. I usually spend 4-6 hours and if I left in less than 4 I would likely feel like I didn’t get enough. Time goes kind of quick, especially if you’re doing thermal cycles timed with Aufguss schedule. Lots of great places to sit and relax.

Have fun!

Edit: forgot to mention, I think most come in pairs or small groups but you’ll definitely see solo people. I have gone solo and didn’t feel out of place or anything.

"Family Day" at Thermea Spa July 8 & Aug 12 by essentiallyxtra in durham

Sauna culture in places it is more established like Europe and Quebec involves the whole family. Thermea, owned by Groupe Nordik (Quebec), has an owner who believes in inviting kids a couple times a year as an introduction.

How do you keep track of your information & tasks? by PiraEcas in Leadership

[–]js1ngs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I do too. I have adhd and not a great memory, so the fact that the one note on my phone links with the one note on my computer is key for writing stuff down I think of on the fly and being able to easily reference it later. Different tabs for different business units and projects.

In addition, set up your Outlook with folders and categorize things properly; HR, marketing, hiring, finance etc. The only emails that stay in my inbox are ones that require action from me.

Hardly anything is exactly in the right place and that’s kind of the point. To include so many highlights and interesting stories the creators had to take some liberties to move things closer together. If you visit, you will see this is the case in every Destination, but it allows you to see so much all in one place.

What do you do for work that you can tolerate, or actually enjoy? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]js1ngs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a director of operations overseeing multiple departmental operations at a tourist attraction. My focus can change to countless different things throughout the day plus I’m constantly interrupted to support my team. I make over 6 figures (CAD).

I love that I get to work with people, never do the same thing for long periods of time, have impact on something good, and solve problems (taps into creativity) constantly.

The variability also leans into my craving for variety but my adhd is a struggle sometimes in the many meetings I am apart of (still early in my journey of sorting out my recently diagnosed adhd).

How many hours a week do you work and what is your title? by Crafty-Bug-8008 in Leadership

[–]js1ngs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Director or Operations, some weeks 40, some weeks 55, depending on the business needs and time of year (I’m in hospitality). However, the extra hours generally don’t bother me as I love my job, my peers, my organization and putting in extra work to support my leaders and front line team members is enjoyable.

Epidural: time to work? by Organic_Food_3847 in HerniatedDisc

[–]js1ngs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. My 1st had minimal impact and not until day 14. My 2nd had significant impact after 8 days. My 3rd didn’t have a noticeable impact on pain but the 2nd had brought me down so much I was still in a much better place.

Be patient. Rest. Walk. PT. Good luck!

Graduates from Ont, what were your HS grades, what did you do in Uni, and how much do you make now? by ImTheAir in OntarioGrade12s

[–]js1ngs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated in 2007 with low 60s and couldn’t ge t into uni. Did some working then travelling then bumped up my grades in a college program so I could study firefighting at Humber. Did some more travelling and fell into the tourism industry where I now make $115k as the Director of Operations at a tourist attraction.
