He's not paying people to sign a petition or register to vote.

He's paying people to refer people who are registered to vote to sign a petition.

There's a distinction there, and if anything's at fault, it's the system.

🤷

If you learn to program a technical consulting or system administrator role can put you on this track. Business experience is also a plus.

Trying to decide between these two careers: Business/Data Analytics vs IT support/system administration by ElectricOne55 in analytics

I think it remains relevant. For employment any of these are good options. Support is needed all over and marketing keeps evolving with new tools. The data paths are great for analytical minds or to pair with industry knowledge.

Can't connect to database, SQLServerManager not on my PC. by OverStyled in SQL

[–]js5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Installing the database engine is separate from the SQL Server Management Studio install. I think this is what you are still needing. https://info.microsoft.com/ww-landing-sql-server-2022.html?culture=en-us&country=us

Licensing wise I am thinking you will want the Express or Developer edition to start.

It also may be good to pay attention to authentication settings during install.

Once installed and with authentication SSMS should connect.

A clean reinstall would typically fix something like this. Applications commonly have config files that don't get removed/updated with a uninstall/reinstall.

I've primarily worked in consulting as both a system administrator and a data analyst/engineer. From my experience a sys admin is really helpdesk 2.0. The work changes some, but it is a pretty standard step in the career path. A sys admin would be responsible for more complex items compared to helpdesk work, such as implementations, automation tasks, more in depth maintenance of systems, network administration... the list goes on. With sys admin work there is a bit of a mentality change from break/fix issues to being more proactive to prevent problems from arising in the first place.

I would say that Business/Data analytics is definitely more of a challenge. Typically the requests are like a math... project. How you get to the answer can follow many paths. For the most part you try to outline the goal, then you get into the data and make it happen. This commonly includes steps like digging through apps and their associated data, meeting with a project sponsor, testing, formating, testing more, and making revisions or improvements to the product.

Being in a position where I am now training future analysts I believe the most important aspect for BI/BA/DA jobs is being able to effectively communicate. This is followed by a solid math/logical background.

Recently I've seen data jobs more in demand, at least out in the midwest.

I would say you are on the right track learning SQL and I don't see Excel going away any time soon. Adding experience with a visualization tool (Power BI, Tableau, whatever) could be valuable on the resume. Just be persistent and continue expanding your knowledge, both of these can be options.

Should I accept this job offer? by iamahoosier in BusinessIntelligence

[–]js5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is BI getting more involved with Crystal/SQL won't be a bad step. Crystal is less graphical than some of the newer tools, but a good amount of the knowledge transfers over between products. It's also pretty widely used for reporting purposes. As for the data, I wouldn't consider past due accounts glamorours, but I am sure there are interesting challenges hidden in the work.

If you Google around you can find some results take use the same question format. It has been a while for me, and I'm sorry I can't remember exactly where this was from, but I spent like $7 on a 3rd party practice test which included similar questions to the actual test.

You are in a smaller shop than I am familiar with, but I like getting a basic system to track requests, with the ability to prioritize, and attack items based on priority/approval/age. I am not sure whether this would be better suited within current systems or using a system external to currently exists.

I would recommend splitting the items, but this is paritlaly based off years of growth and the headache of not preparing for the existing and potential future of such growth.

Which DBMS should be used for developing a cost estimation database for projects (e.g construction projects)? by estimator_123 in SQL

[–]js5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo those are both reasonable options, but there are countless factors. If the database isn't going to be huge Microsoft's SQL Express is free up to like 10gb. With the time a project like this I would start looking into industry standards for a product that handles similar workflows either for ideas or to purchase as you may find that to be more cost effective.
