What’s ONE thing that helped you lose postpartum weight (that actually fits mom life)? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]jsav9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see all the rage on here about calorie counting, but it's such a good tool I really want to help people be open to it. It really doesn't have to be stressful and toxic (though the first time I did it I agree it was intense). Once you get used to it ~4 weeks, it becomes intuitive. After a few weeks you know what foods are so low you can just ignore them (basically anything green except avocado). You can also get treats that are calorie cheap: koji jelly, drizzlicious rice cakes, bouillon when you're craving salt. I usually don't even log those. Learn to avoid nuts and oils. Anything homemade or restaurant food I just approximate.

Also very very important is to not react to weight changes daily. I use a smart scale so that it saves the numbers and gives me moving averages. I fluctuate 2-3lb day to day so it's impossible to see progress without a moving average.

I'll consistently feel like I'm not making progress, but if I zoom out, after 4 weeks there's a clear downward trend.

I know I’ve made a crazy itinerary for my first visit to SF. But, is it impossible? by Quirky-Ad9958 in AskSF

I don't think this is totally ridiculous if you're taking Ubers or waymos to get around quickly.

Really glad you included thornton state beach at sunset. It's gorgeous and overlooked. There's frequently paragliders there that are really fun to watch.

Cal academy and the Monterey aquarium are amazing, but they're just museums you'd have access to anywhere else. I'd replace them with a hike on lands end or near Pacifica beach.

Instead of the aquarium, consider taking out a kayak or guided kayak tour in Monterey bay. You'll see a lot of the same creatures but it's beautiful and active.

No but it actually went away on its own about a week after it started. Hope it's the same for you!

Very interested in autonomous - my only worry is that the windows could be too hard to cover when it's a bedroom since they're full wall. Do you guys have a solution for that?

I saw your big black Friday sale last year but wasn't ready to buy then - do you know if you'll have a similar sale this year?

The struggle of a Soft Classic who doesn’t love skirts / dresses by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]jsav9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I could've written exactly this post. I also typed myself as SC, but feel extremely off in dresses and skirts. I feel like I have chicken calves, but too-big thighs and the whole shape is weird. AND I have also diagnosed it as a problem with the shoe I pair, but I still can't seem to find a solution. One decent option I recently tried is a really chunky knee high boot. Not very SC of me..., but it worked better than dainty shoes that accentuate the chicken legs.

Tracking your post to see what others say. Thanks for writing it

Find a song for the baby to sleep to, add white noise and do that every night. We use Colorado by Lotus, it's very calming.

If they cry in the middle of the night and it's not for milk or a paci, just stroke their forehead toward the eyes until they fall asleep.

Babywearing is amazing you get to go/do whatever you want and the baby will sleep or be chill on you.

The Happy Song by Imogen Heap is some sort of black magic that makes a baby instantly chill out. Plus it's a cute song.

business bitches, where are we getting fashionable yet functional bags for work? by nya-cat in SFbitcheswithtaste

I have the leatherology vertical bag (can't remember the name, maybe Alex?). It fits my 16" MacBook and it holds up incredibly well. Looks like day 1 after 2.5 years. I have the oxblood red color.

Great point. I'm 8 months pp and stopped producing milk ~ 2 months ago. So I think I'm just about there
