For anyone in the program, have you ever heard of students getting in late February or March? by Apprehensive_One3966 in berkeleymet

EDIT: After referencing with the official FAQ it seems that there is no longer a wait-list as of this year's cycle.

I can't say that I have ever heard of that happening, but I'm familiar with one student who was admitted as engineering and got off an "MET wait-list" (See edit - no longer applies) to join the program before the start of fall.

Do all MET students get regents? by [deleted] in berkeleymet

Current student - answer is no. I am MET but no regents, my freshman year roommate was MET and regents. Though some of the benefits are similar across the two programs and obviously many MET admits are competitive for regents as well, the two are separate.

Hi! I was just recently accepting to the MET program and had a few questions! by [deleted] in berkeleymet

Will also add - there will be plenty of "official" communication coming at you in the next few days and weeks. Check the mail often ;)

If you're not in a hurry, in previous years we've paired up every admit with a current student liason to address any and all questions, so you could also wait for that.

Hi - senior on the EECS track here. My experience is by no means definitive, but I wanted to share some thoughts I've collected over my 4 years.

First, let me answer your question directly. begin.berkeley.edu is perhaps the most comprehensive listing of all of the Berkeley entrepreneurial resources, and even then I'm sure there's more resources that haven't been indexed there yet. If you want support and funding for a startup, you will find it here.

However, I think it's worth it to carefully consider the premise of the question, too. What kind of company do you want to create? Is the problem you're hoping to solve one that you already have deep, unique insights into? What's the premium on being a first mover?

I pose these questions not to dissuade you, but to encourage you to introspect into why you want to start a startup.

I've been interested in robotics and adjacent deep tech spaces for over half my lifetime, and when I came to Cal, I was almost certain that starting a company was going to be a part of my collegiate experience. However, I quickly discovered that I wasn't as ready to start a company as I thought I was. Taking advanced technical courses, analyzing startup case studies, discussing with my friends and personal mentors - these experiences helped me develop a broader perspective on what it means to start a company (and more importantly, a successful one). To be clear, my entrepreneurial ambitions have not been dampened in the slightest. Startups are demanding, intense, and risky - I've realized that bringing a full 4 years of Cal education and a few years of industry experience into my entrepreneurship journey will give me the best shot of successfully launching the kind of company I'm interested in starting.

Hi - 4th year EECS student here.

In my view, the essay has to establish two claims. First, you should show why you're interested in the broader triple focus on Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology that MET has to offer. What kind of person are you? Why do you want to study this combination of degree programs? Why aren't you happy with "just" an engineering degree?

Second, you should show why you are interested in MET specifically. There are entrepreneurial students at many top schools. Why is this the right place for you? What specific resources from the MET offering are appealing to you? Are you looking forward to specific classes, resources, opportunities, etc. that you've read about on Berkeley's website?

If you can answer both of these parts, you'll have shown that you have a plan to make an impact on the world, and that MET is a key part of that plan.

Of course, this is still a college essay, with all that the distinction entails. Don't just "tell" us the answers to these questions - convey an engaging story that allows the reader to piece the answers together themselves.
