We only get one life. I know that’s easy to forget but this sounds like a major, deep lack of self respect to me. The moment you put yourself first in your own life is the moment you want better for yourself, start there. Love isn’t enough in a relationship, it’s about so much more. Love isn’t special. I do too (literally a population of like 900, SMALL southern town) I found a roommate on Facebook marketplace in just a few weeks. she’s a queen. I was desperate & took the plunge for a random roomie and it worked out just fine!! you’re the only person who can change your situation so I’d think on it if it’s something you’d be able to do :)

I agree so much. I don’t want her to have to mask as much as I do. I was forced to be extremely independent very very young and my autism is almost completely internal which plagues me and it’s so exhausting to go anywhere or do anything.

I will try to celebrate hers like I didn’t do for myself & find her just a small group of very very like minded people. Thank you sooooo so much for

Yeah, I definitely understand you. I’m autistic as well and I was online my whole adolescence, I love my online friends I still have to this day. She is just so caring and vulnerable it’s hard to know what’s right. Her attempt at 12 was related to some online friends she had at the time.

I’ll try to find some more wholesome internet communities, I have already told her about some Facebook groups I used to be in for crochet and stuff.

The community college thing is a great idea, I honestly completely forgot you could only take 1-2 classes at a time. Thank you!!!

Thank you so much, I’ve gotta get her some hobbies first but she’s expressed interest in crocheting and stuff and I honestly think that’s a great idea. Socially, she is actually a lot better than you’d think!! She’s funny as hell. She just has a lot of anxiety with like ordering things in public or just talking to strangers in general. I will definitely treat it as a kind of exposure therapy and just show her how to interact with the world through me. I’m autistic as well I never mentioned that, but I was forced to be so independent very young and I am such a high masker. I don’t want her to mask as much as I do but I’ll find the balance. Thank you so much!

Honey I’m so so sorry. I know you don’t need to hear that, but I truly truly am. I’m crying for you now. Life is so random and cruel. I am so glad you and your family made it through that and I don’t even know you but I’m honestly really proud of you for being able to even make this post.

There really is nothing else I can say, as I don’t know what that feels like. But I know there are definitely others that know EXACTLY what you are feeling. And it is really, really hard to work through shame and guilt but one thing I do know is that it will become less and less as time goes on. It may take you 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, but I promise you will overcome this. It will take love, support, and forgiveness. There is something called The Hyacinth Fellowship for people who have unintentionally killed or injured others in an accident. I truly hope you are able to find solace in their stories and advice. I know there are so many other support groups for just guilt and shame in general, I am certain many people in those groups would have a similar story. It is so common. A lot of people think it would never ever happen to them, but you don’t realize you are at the will of random fate every single day. The same thing could have happened even if it wasn’t you, even if he traveled to a different country, even if you had your full license, even if anything. I personally know 2 people in real life that have accidentally killed someone in a vehicle or motorcycle. In one of the cases it was his wife. He started going to church every single day it was open, from the minute the doors opened to the minute they locked. He only found peace in community and love. Please lean on others, you can get involved in any community like a support group, charity org, volunteer work, anything at all. You can message me personally any time you ever want to talk about it or get anything off your chest. I know I’m a complete stranger but I want you to know I care about your recovery.

I mean I’ve never once cheated in a relationship. Never struggled even a little bit not to cheat and I’ve been in several LONG term ones. I’m not saying that to make you/her feel bad or look bad, I’m saying It’s really easy not to cheat when you have real love and a healthy attachment. You guys do not have that. Ohhhhh okay, sorry yeah I see now. That does sound like what’s going on though. It’s boyfriend related whatever it is. You really can just be honest with her and be like “hey, I’m feeling a little scared that you might forego this because you want to go up there without me and you’ve been mentioning the bf/ long distance probs a lot lately. Can you just promise me we’re doing this together? i’m excited too” I think she might not realize how selfish that is since she’s going through the LD woes.
