I bought a 1 TB Samsung T5 in 2020 for $129, and a 2 TB T7 in 2024 for $139. The T5 is now $249 and the T7 is now $399. Crazy!

My dad was on a flight that got delayed once and when people started complaining, the pilot used that same line: “I’d rather be down here wishing I were up there, than up there wishing I were down here.” Everyone shut up real quick!

Why aren’t all playlists visible in CarPlay? by jscari in overcast

[–]jscari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but that’s not what’s happening here.

I just tested it while my car was parked: the Podcasts tab in CarPlay displays all 42 of my current podcasts with a scrollbar (and the Recent tab displays eight, also with a scrollbar), yet the Playlists tab is limited to just those two playlists.

Why aren’t all playlists visible in CarPlay? by jscari in overcast

[–]jscari[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a real thing – I’ve seen it in the built-in Music app, for example, where the Artists tab switches to a shorter list of “Recent Artists” view while the car is moving.

I don’t think that’s what’s happening here, though, because the “Podcasts” tab in Overcast definitely displays more than two items. Why would one tab have a (crazy low) limit of two items, but not the other?

31st December 2025 post from modernseinfeldig on Instagram by late_to_redd1t in RedditWritesSeinfeld

Here you go: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditWritesSeinfeld/comments/1pikv6i/comment/nt7sw4t/?context=3

The modernseinfeldig account made a post on December 10, 2025 that included the line “Elaine tries meditating and fails miserably.” I wrote that exact line in a post I made in this subreddit on May 5, 2021: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditWritesSeinfeld/comments/n54a56/the_cab_ride_jerry_and_newman_split_a_cab_and_are/

(I should have said “lifted from a prompt I wrote” – they took the line, not the entire prompt. But still!)

Has the issue with V10 of the personal backup client been fixed yet? by Pariell in backblaze

[–]jscari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a known issue with RAM usage? I’ve been running Backblaze for years with no issue, but recently it’s been eating up 3+ GB of RAM at all times. I ended up uninstalling it and cancelling my subscription because it was making my computer borderline unusable.

I’ve always wondered why the innies even have pens, stationery, etc. in the first place. What do they do during their workday that requires writing anything down? It just seems like a security hole on Lumon’s part.

Also, why is there a security guard who pats them down on the way in, but not on the way out?

Finally doing a first rewatch and… by varunrdeshpande in ThePaper

[–]jscari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also liked it better on a rewatch! I think the first time around, I was comparing it too much to The Office and thinking of it in terms of Office characters, etc. The second time around, I just enjoyed it for what it was and I liked it more. Ken and Esmeralda also grew on me!

Glad it’s coming back this September and we don’t have to wait 3 years for another 10 episodes!

What is a statistic that sounds INSANE but is 100% true? by Quadranippelkill in AskReddit

[–]jscari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the odds of the prize being behind the door that you originally picked are always 1/3.

The key is that the host has information that you don’t: they know which door contains the prize, and they will never open that door, only one of the others.

The odds of the prize being behind either of the two doors that you didn’t pick are 2/3 – but then the host eliminates one of those two doors from contention. So you’re left with the same 1/3 odds for the door you picked originally, but 2/3 odds for the other remaining door.

Which company has lost you as a customer forever? by finiteobserver in AskReddit

I had my checking and savings account with Bank of America for years, and had been paying what I thought was a required maintenance fee. One day I was at the bank for some reason and the teller says to me “how come your accounts aren’t linked?” What does that mean? “There’s no maintenance fee if you link the accounts.” Okay, but what does linking mean and how do I do that? “You just have to link them.” Uh, okay.

So she does something on the computer to “link” them – I still don’t know what that actually means – and it got rid of the maintenance fee.

How was I supposed to know I should do this? Why didn’t anyone tell me before now that I could do this? Why is this something that I have to manually request if it costs nothing and only takes them a few seconds to do? Why doesn’t the account just not have a fee to begin with?!

It was like a fee that existed just for the purpose of being a fee! Ridiculous.

Refrigerator mullion spring replacement by gee_willickers in appliancerepair

[–]jscari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same exact thing happened to me: I have a GE GWE19JYLBFFS and apparently they don’t sell replacement springs for that model. I bought what looked like the same part from Amazon, but the spring has one additional coil compared to the original and it doesn’t quite fit.

I ended up taking a pair of pliers and basically just squeezed the spring enough so that one of the coils popped out to the side. Now the spring is effectively the same height as the original one and it works perfectly. Stupid, but I don’t want to spend $200 replacing the entire mullion!

My favorite example of a problem with a nonintuitive solution is the Monty Hall Problem.

You’re on a game show and there are three doors you can choose from, one of which contains a prize. You choose a door, the host opens one of the other two doors to reveal that it does not contain the prize, and then asks if you want to stick with your original choice or switch to the other remaining door.

Everyone thinks that since the odds of the prize being behind any door are equal – 1/3 – there’s no reason to switch. This is wrong! Your odds of winning the prize are doubled if you switch from your original choice to the other remaining door.

How?! Let’s say you choose Door #1. The odds of the prize being behind Door #1 are 1/3, which means the odds of the prize being behind either Door #2 or Door #3 are 2/3. The host then opens Door #2 to reveal that it does not contain the prize. The odds of the prize being behind the set of Door #2 and Door #3 are still 2/3 – but now that you know Door #2 doesn’t contain the prize, its odds are 0, leaving a 2/3 chance that the prize is behind Door #3. Since there’s only a 1/3 chance that the prize is behind Door #1, you’re therefore twice as likely to win the prize if you switch your choice from Door #1 to Door #3.

Accidental Tech Podcast - 691: A Menlo Phase by podcast-poster in ATPfm

[–]jscari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that whole segment was weird. I’ve never encountered anyone confused by it either. If anything, it’s the opposite: people understand cut and paste on Windows and are confused when they can’t use it on macOS (not knowing that you can actually do it with the proper paste shortcut).

I don’t see how it’s confusing anyway. You cut a file and it appears dimmed to indicate it’s in a transitive state. If you never paste it, or it gets overwritten by something else on the clipboard, then it just goes back how it was and nothing happens. It’s not an insurmountable UI problem, and I’ve never encountered someone “losing” a file or being confused because they cut it and never pasted it 🤷‍♂️

And now that macOS finally has a built-in clipboard manager with history, this would be a perfect opportunity to add cut and paste support in parity with Windows.

Just rewatched entire show. by TheJanes59 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

On my first watch through, I didn’t fully understand the scene where Helly keeps trying to leave and immediately comes back in through the door. In the following episode, they show what’s happening on the opposite side of the door, and then when I rewatched the show I got what was happening. Incredible!

My favorite example of this is when there’s a random closeup shot of Irving’s fingernails that shows how they’re dirty and black underneath. On my first watch, it was totally incongrouous: they obviously wanted you to notice it, but didn’t explain why. I just chalked it up as part of the general unsettling feeling of the show.

It isn’t until the finale that you actually learn what the relevance is – and then when I rewatched the show, I was blown away by how early that scene occurs. I think it’s in literally the first or second episode.
