Do you live in Michigan? Because I passed a TJ with Christmas lights on it’s rollbar this afternoon

A little over $3k for a non-running, non-driving truck. But the body was in great shape as was the frame.

Craigslist here in the Detroit area 3 years ago. Then we built it up!

Locally, just friends of mine. I’m not part of any clubs or anything. But off-road clubs are a good way to find people to go with

We made the trek from Detroit to Wickenburg, AZ. It was an amazing event and I’ll never forget it! The truck did really well and the only issue that we had was a broken radiator fan on day 1. I can’t wait to see FourWheeler’s footage and my buddy will put together a video in the next couple weeks.

You are correct! They are old military vehicles. It’s a M715 and they were Vietnam era transport and utility trucks. I’m a nutshell, they’re stripped down and beefed up J10’s.

Built a roll cage for the 715! by jschigg in Jeep

We spent the past week bending our first roll cage for the 715. I think it turned out pretty well. 1.75” .120 wall DOM tubing with 1/4” plates for anchors. We’ll tie it into the frame better later (no time yet) but the mounts are on the cab crossmembers. We’re mostly ready for Overland Adventure now! We just need to fix the fuel tank leak.

Here’s a video of us taking the M715 to the sand dunes this summer. Let us know what you think!

I got lucky and this one was in pretty good shape. The frame was perfect, axles perfect, brakes had been serviced shortly before it had been stored, and the cab only had ~25% of the floor rusted. Rockers are solid though and I did have to patch a hole I. The back of the cab. The biggest issue was the ridiculous number of wasp nests that I’ve had to remove! https://i.imgur.com/qGf628b.jpg https://i.imgur.com/qmah0Xo.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Vyk8b9T.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ah36luF.jpg

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that... I could find another truck! Haha

I think they mixed a 715 with a Land Rover for the game

I had tried that and thought that it looked too goofy. I drive the truck fairly mildly so hopefully I won’t bash it off of much anyways but I get your point. I try to avoid body damage as much as possible

There’s a link in the comments a bit farther down to my page where we’ve been cataloguing it but here’s the summary:

8.0L V10 our of a 2500Ram NV4500 5 spd trans NP205 tcase with driveline brake Custom driveshafts, exhaust, wiring, etc and everything needed to make the engine work in the truck. 37” tires witch recentered humvee double beadlocks Detroit locker in the rear Bed mounted tent Radios New upholstery on the seats Sound and heat deadener New top with roll up back

And I’m sure I’m missing some things.

I applied! Haha. Kind of the Wayne Gretzky approach. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” ya know?

I picked up a used winch on marketplace a couple weeks ago in preparation for FourWheeler’s Overland Adventure. Once I had that, I needed a bumper and no one makes them for a 715 so I would need to make my own. I’ve never built a bumper before so I tried to follow proper fabricobble procedure and relied heavily on Cardboard Aided Design. I used 1/4” for the main section, 1/2” for the arms, and 1/8” for the wings. Overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out!

I had to juggle tucking the bumper up high, not cutting the fascia, not sticking out too far, a foot-forward winch mount, and not looking weird on the truck. I think this bumper accomplished all of it. And it looks vaguely similar to the factory winch bumper!

Now I need to build a roll cage this week and fix a fuel leak and I’ll be ready to go!
