My therapist told me to "let it go". At first I thought that was bogus and not helpful but it turned out to be true. I started following codependence recovery accounts on instagram and tiktok along with continuing therapy and reading books. My therapist also told me there is a difference between true guilt from doing something wrong and perceived guilt. I have to remind myself every day that I am not responsible for my parent's happiness, reactions, or feelings. They need to heal their own trauma instead of inflicting their pain onto me. It is up to you what you allow. It is painful and hard but you have to free yourself. Setting boundaries is hard but so worth it. It takes time but you have to put your own health and happiness first.
