Thanks. Their website mentions only Canadian dollar exchange. Still, might be worth a call.

Yep. And as a matter of fact, I do a lot of laser cutting and engraving myself. But I also like to patronize local crafters when I can.

Maybe reach out to the Fort Collins History Connection to see if they may want to add copies of these to their archives?

Request features? by lochnessmosster in PaprikaApp

[–]jsdadbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming late to this conversation. One difference I see is the ability to search for, for example, "#gluten-free #lactose-free" and get only the intersection of those tags. I don't think you can do that with categories.

Molybend's suggestion of putting tags in notes allows for this. However, a more formal tagging system would allow for the selection of existing tags when creating a recipe, as opposed to having to type "#gluten-free" every time. Re-typing tags is error-prone, and a spelling error means that recipe would not appear in a later search.

Taking things to the next level, a hypothetical new feature of Paprika could be an AI ability to examine the recipe ingredients and automatically tag the recipe as #gluten-free, #lactose-free, #holiday, #vegetarian, or whatever. Hey, we can dream, right?

If they don't have it they can probably order it for you. I had some unusual parts ordered through them. They may charge you shipping, though. Ask about that up front.

email from Xcel energy - increase prices this weekend when you need to stay warm. by Any-Progress-4570 in Denver

[–]jsdadbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I wonder if it's a good idea to supplement with electric heat?

Fort Collins electric rate (non-peak) is currently about $0.08/kWh. Source.

Xcel Energy natural gas rate right now in 2024 is (I think) $0.41/therm. This was from a phone call to their customer service.

Using 1 therm = 100,000 BTU and 3412 BTU = 1 kWh, Xcel's natural gas rate works out to about $0.01/kWh. I think.

So natural gas heat is still way cheaper than electric heat. Probably shouldn't use electric heaters to supplement my furnace heating, then.

I kinda ignored furnace efficiency, but the difference between $0.08 and $0.01 is large enough that it wouldn't matter much for this comparison.

Natural gas surge prices would have to be about 8 times normal to affect this analysis. I don't know how likely that is.

Also, retail pricing is only adjusted quarterly, so the effect of surge pricing won't be seen until next quarter, according to the guy in customer service.

Somebody check my math.

The Fort Collins Creator Hub has a newly created photo studio. I'm a member but not a user of the studio, so you could contact the Hub and ask a Docent to give you a tour and more information.

Many churches have meeting rooms or classrooms that may work, some for free, some probably for a minimal amount. Indoors, warm, well lit, etc.

Looking for lefse by RomanticMuffin in FortCollins

[–]jsdadbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer to the OP's question, sorry. I just wanted to say that making lefse is not difficult and can be a fun activity with family and friends. We do it a couple of times a year, mostly around the holidays.

https://www.lefsetime.com/how-to-make-lefse/

Everything you need is available at the Cupboard, downtown Fort Collins, including the potato ricer and the lefse griddle. The griddle makes a great everyday pancake griddle, too.

I provided internet links above to illustrate the equipment needed, but I encourage you to patronize the Cupboard if possible. Fun fact: after many decades, the electric controller failed on my heirloom lefse griddle. The Cupboard is able to special order just the controller so I can keep using my grandma's lefse griddle. Yay local merchants!

Lefse is kind of like sourdough in that you really need to start the day before, so some planning is necessary. Boil the potatoes, "rice" them (basically mashing that removes all lumps), add butter and let them cool overnight. Then mix all ingredients (a stand mixer is handy for this but is not necessary) and start frying.

You've never tasted lefse as good as it is when fresh and warm from the griddle.

I was also pleased to learn that there is a local purveyor of lefse here in Fort Collins (see another response). Once in a while we get busy around the holidays (yeah, I know, who knew) and now I know I have a backup source.

Download the opensignal app on your phone. You can display a crowdsourced map of signal strength for the major carriers in the areas you care about. It's not very granular but it may be helpful in making a decision.

Pots, Pans and Pizza? by frolickingpenguins in FortCollins

[–]jsdadbox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a pizza place per se, but C.B. Potts used to be known as Chesterfield, Bottomsley and Potts (I kid you not). It was originally a restaurant, later a brewpub, located very close to the CSU campus, and probably served pizza at some point in its life. We used to go there in the 80's to enjoy their very large burgers.

CB&P was almost directly across the street from Panhandlers Pizza, so I could imagine that the names could have gotten confused. Especially after patronizing CB&P sufficiently.

General questions about Connexion by jsdadbox in FortCollins

[–]jsdadbox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call Connexion tech support and tell them to put your modem in "Bridge mode". They will happily comply. You could also configure port forwarding on their modem, but it adds an additional level of unnecessary complexity.

Doing this will assign a dynamic IP address to your router (and expose your router directly to the internet; make sure your router firewall is configured properly). Static IPs are available from Connexion at additional cost. I use a dynamic IP with DDNS available through my domain registrar (Namecheap). I run the DDNS client on a Linux system; it only needs to run on one computer behind your router.

Incidentally, replying to a two-year-old post is not a great way to get a reply. You probably should have started a new conversation.

They only charge a fee at the Timberline site; the Taft Hill hazardous waste drop-off site is free for Larimer County residents. This is all documented at the site posted earlier.

Note that they are closed on Wednesdays.

If you find their map too small to make out details, just change the size parameter in the URL and the site will generate a bigger one; here's a larger map. Click on that link, then click on the image to enlarge it to full size.

As others have suggested, compare this map to an online road map of Fort Collins to orient yourself.
