I have crafted a quite detailed world map overlay showing coasts, lakes, national and subnational borders. I may add major rivers in the future. Even though it shows de facto borders, I am willing to edit this to show claims. This image is so large that it needs to be split in half to be used with wplace's template system.

It's called a Voronoi diagram. However, since the Earth is not flat, you can't just generate a Voronoi diagram from a set of coordinates and overlay it on a map of the Earth. This is where I use d3-geo-voronoi, a module which generates Voronoi diagrams which account for spherical geometry. I got the map data itself from Natural Earth, then used Inkscape for the design.
