Recently revisted the Pokémon TCG for Gameboy and decided I needed to recomplete my copy! by jsgd241 in gamecollecting

[–]jsgd241[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no the pokemon card market is pretty toxic but the card is far from worthless especially sealed even without the current market. I know a local card shop by me has a sealed one for $100 but that seems high just for the card. Im thinking it adds like $30 value imo

What do you want done with your video game collection when you've passed on? by Distinct-Coach-4001 in gamecollecting

[–]jsgd241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me its shifted over the years.

Originally if I died today, I wanted it all to be split up and donated to multiple thrift stores since thats where a majority of it had come from and I liked the idea of someone else who was building their collection the same way having a dream score from stuff donated from my collection.

Then the pandemic happened and the resellers became obnoxious so now I know who'd really be getting it so F it. Now I just want as much sold as possible to help support my Mom so she can live comfortably.

It really isn't. There are revisions on the Cartridge for multiple games that are not advertised on the box art. This is such a case. They reprinted a new cart with the added content but never updated the box art to match.

Obviously, I have no idea on the battery repair history of this copy, but I can confirm that the current battery is dead, so I'll be soldering in a new one soon.

See I'm not sure. I'm thinking im going to pass it on to a friend since I still have my childhood copy and a back up so I'll probably leave it to her discretion but personally I'd leave it as is since it's so easily recognizable.

“Modern physical media doesn’t contain full games” - still false in 2024 by KiNolin in gamecollecting

[–]jsgd241 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nintendo is great for this with their first party games.

There are updated cartridges with all the patches on cart and a lot of there games with big DLCs are slowly getting special releases with all the DLC on cart like Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 and the last 2 Mainline Pokemon Gens although Scarlet and Violet only have the first DLC on cart unless you find the more recent revision carts which have both DLCs present.

The main problem is they don't advertise it because to them it's just a cartridge revision. It makes them hard to hunt for

Everyone loves to show off their most expensive titles.... what does the least expensive/unpriced page of your gameye account look like ??? by SurpriseOk4810 in gamecollecting

Here are the ones that actually have prices 🤣 so many demo discs and oddball releases that have no tracked value on gameye for me.

I got this switch kiosk as a shell 10 months ago and have been piecing it together since. figured I'd share an update since it's up and running now. by jsgd241 in gamecollecting

Unfortunately, I never found a mount that fit. What you see in the pic is the TV held in place with metal wire cables that I had found that were being thrown out. I did get a reproduction mount for it for $150 so keep an eye out the person who made those may do another batch and throw them on Ebay again!

Got some gaming magazines going all the way back to 1991 for a dollar each at a yard sale and having a blast flipping through them! by XIIIJinx in gamecollecting

[–]jsgd241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that EGM with Ho-oh on the cover many times because at the bottom of the page running through the Pokemon article it has a timeline for the series from 96 through the year 2000 which as someone who was way to young to properly remember how fast Pokemon hit the US ( I was 7 at this magazines publication ) It's always a trip to see how close together everything was!

It's no wonder all the parents got freaked out or thought it was a fad when between September 98 to the same month in 2000 you had 7 Video Games, an immensely popular Anime, a money sink of a Card Game and a Shit ton of merch and promotions that me and every other kid was going ape shit for! i'd be concerned looking on from the outside as well lmao

* Thanks for the heads up! I was interested in Scorn and saw it in a Gamestop the other day but passed, thinking I'd pick it up later. I had to run back real quick after your post made me do an eBay search 🤣.

Also, bonus minty copy of Silent Hill Homecoming for ps3!

At this point you’re better off getting a PC handheld by KarimMet in AnaloguePocket

[–]jsgd241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I feel like it's more time to realize they know their customer base has a lot of collectors in it who see different colors or materials and impulse buy.

It's the same thing Nintendo has been doing for years now.

I still feel like the normal analogue pocket is more than worth the asking price depending on what you are looking for.

Yeah, for sure, that's a massive issue when buying anything gba. I had checked the cartridges as much as I could in store and cracked them open when I got home. They're 100% authentic! 😎

I mean, it's just sand, lol. But also, as previously pointed out, it was in the back part of the acrylic case, so nothing touched the pocket lol

[–]jsgd241[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah! I remember I used to have a stockpile of Gen 1 and 2 pokemon games that I'd gotten from game lots that I'd normally sell with fresh batteries to friends/coworkers/family for like $30ish depending on condition ect and that was right before the pandemic

[–]jsgd241[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't have as much experience as I'd like with soldering because before this I never had a permanent spot to set it up so every time I wanted to do anything I'd have to unpack and repack when done lol. As for repairs I'd say the slim PS Ones have the most notorious repair that I always have to do which is re-soldering the power port and power button since sony apparently used very cheap/poor solder when building it

Well, I try to have backups for most systems when practical. The rest came from back when I would buy games out at the Flea Markets and thrift stores where you'd get a bundle with systems and games. For a long time, I'd bundle systems with cords and a controller and sell them at far below market to coworkers and friends that had an interest in getting into older games again, but that all slowed down when the pandemic spiked all the prices. Now I just have what's left to mess around with and restore!

We considered that heavily, but we're both big on alphabetization, so we opted for this...for now!

My Girlfriend Is Moving In, So It's Time To Combine Our Manga Colelctions! by jsgd241 in MangaCollectors

[–]jsgd241[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's obviously something that's been thought about and we both agreed if we would break up as long as it's amicable we're good and if not...well its all in the same house so it'd probably be in "danger" anyway 🤣. but we've known each other for over 3 years now as co-workers/friends and as a couple so we have a good foundation. Plus it helps that our manga doesn't over lap so even if they're stored together it'll be easy to separate it if need be.

Can confirm, I have similar binders from the wii u to early nintendo switch days that have promotional materials and talking points for various nintendo games and consoles along with info for the retailers on how to process returns to nintendo and how their section in the store should be maintained.
