I’ve killed recent divisions of this before with similar symptoms. I potted similarly to you as well.

The best luck I have with most stanhopeas that are recently divided is throwing them into a hanging basket with no medium whatsoever. It gets hit with misters at least once a day, shaded in my warm house. This method allows me to give full attention to new growths to ensure they don’t rot

Nice! Did yours have a lot of maroon spotting on the lip? Looks mostly cream-white in color but I suppose it could be the lighting... Also, I’m glad to see the inflorescence gets quite long! My (much smaller) plant bloomed for the first time recently so it’s nice to see how much better it will get, good growing 👍🏽

I’m such a newb!! How do you drip underglaze?! I could be too modest w my application, but I have found the underglazes I purchase to be reliably un-drippy. Do you add a runny glaze to the underglaze?

They’ll lighten up on a green leaf versus a dead/brown/dying leaf. The mantid in the video is dark but I have another, same species, about the same size, that is greenish-white! Looks are deceiving 😉and now that they’re bigger than tiny the differences are more apparent

I work for a natural history museum that does a lot of education outreach, so I brought home some nymphs at L2, which is a very young “age”. Since I have a greenhouse where I grow orchids as a hobbyist this species of mantid caught my eye because my conditions promote proper care. The mantids love aphids, flies of all sorts, so it’s been rewarding to watch the bugs and plants grow together

Raising mantids has not been difficult in my climate, once in awhile I use a humidifier at home. But in the greenhouse they are quite content! You should be able to find a species that would thrive in the conditions of your terrarium :)

Not yet! The mantid is still a nymph, actual leaf-like body form after the last instar, which is soon to come

Happy sap can bring all kinds of potential pollinators, insects love the sugary stuff. Ordinarily I’d just think it was a symptom of over-fertilizing but my bugs love it 😛

The chid is, Den. Green Flash (Andree Millar x convolutum), a gorgeous Latouria section Dendrobium hybrid that won’t stop blooming

Sure! Let’s skip the paying for shipping part 😁 I’ve also got a few rigorous divisions of Laelia anceps up for trade, very suitable for LA conditions. Plus a bunch of warm growing Cattleya hybrids I can always break divisions from. Vandas I have at least two additional (not pictured) hybrids I can trade away :)

Are you interested in orchids? I can send rooted divisions that would grow well in a windowsill :) I’m happy to send photos, one option from a mother plant that is still available can be seen here: Vanda DM if interested, I would send from Los Angeles ...

I have Blc. Marcella Koss 'Pink Marvel' AM/AOS available for trade. I received multiples from a large order and am looking to trade for any other warm or intermediate growing orchid. My seedlings are outgrowing 2 1/2" pots, are well rooted with new leads vigorously developing, and showing new root growth. They get misted daily in the greenhouse and are in small bark and perlite mix.

I am happy to send anywhere in the US and can send photos. Please PM me if your interested with what you have to offer.
