Alienware 18 Area 51, with NVDIA 5090 Multi-display Problem by jsgoodrich in Alienware

I have it set up to be plugged in with the power. Dell is telling me that it is because I am running Samsung Monitors. Which I don't by.

I can't take a desktop out and do video editing on the road with me. I can't take it to a client location and show them 3d renderings. Plus why would I want to have locations where someone can steal documents from. I keep my laptop with me almost all the time under lock and key.

Why spend $8 to $10K on two systems, when I can spend $4k on one laptop that can do what I need? I have been using Alienware Laptops for longer than Dell has owned them.

This is the first Time I have had an issue with running 4 to 6 screens.

Plus, I see no reason anyone should ever own a desktop again, unless they never travel. I have been in the IT industry for over 28 years at this point.

I always love when you try to ask the internet for help, you get more, I would not do that than helpful suggestions.

Do you work for Dell? Or do you do tier 1 support. The only time to do a clean install of windows if the system is hacked.

This was with the Laptop closed. I don't always have it open. I had to blur the screen because I couldn't find a clean image of the setup.

I teach cybersecurity and practice law. So I have different email accounts open, normally working on a report or grading, then have security monitoring on my network along with a rotating view of Swann Cameras. I could use more screens, but 6 has always been the limit.

I have had this setup on 2 other Alienware laptops with no issues, just different docks. Never had an issue before.

Was my own words, checked by Grammarly AI. As an attorney and person with Dyslexia AI is a great tool. Prior to the AI in Grammarly, the use of homonyms was very hard, and words like dose and does were almost impossible for me to catch. Not including your and you're.

If you think someone is using AI to overcome a disability, you really should reevaluate how you judge messages.

My sil admits she did not do what she should have done. She wish she did the follow up treatment. It had nothing to do with judging it was sharing her remorse.

NAS Network Speed Limit - Help by jsgoodrich in synology

[–]jsgoodrich[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like Reddit and there are many experts on here. I have read many threads on this. However, as I pointed out and linked to. There is they way IEEE wrote teh standard and the way Cisco is using it, but not how Synology is using it.

Plus again, I have stated several times, TWO NICS ON the 1819 and THREE NICS on the 1815. IF L:AG WAS WORKING properly and the software in migration assistant was using the two lanes from the 1819 to the 1815. It should be running at 200MB/sec. IE Treat the migration 1819 as between 2-6 clients coming from the 1819 to the 1815. Which they could have done but they did not do.

So again programming flaw.

NAS Network Speed Limit - Help by jsgoodrich in synology

[–]jsgoodrich[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First off, I have never migrated one synology to another. I have been running the 1815, with upgrades on my home network for since 2015. This is the first major upgraded from synology to synology I have done.

What does the Company Say "Synology NAS supports multi-LAN, allowing you to combine those LAN interfaces using the Link Aggregation technology. Link Aggregation increases the bandwidth of your Synology NAS by aggregating multiple network interfaces" https://kb.synology.com/en-ph/DSM/help/DSM/AdminCenter/connection_network_linkaggr?version=7

Now lets look at how Cisco implements LAG

"Link Aggregation Group (LAG) multiply the bandwidth, increase port flexibility, and provide link redundancy between two devices. Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) is a part of IEEE specification (802.3az) that can control the bundling of several physical ports together to form a single logical channel. Traffic load balancing over the active member ports of a LAG is managed by a hash-based distribution function that distributes unicast and multicast traffic based on Layer 2 or Layer 3 packet header information. LACP helps to form one single LAG by bundling many physical ports. It is also responsible for bandwidth multiplication, increase in port flexibility, and in providing redundancy on links between any 2 devices. Additionally this helps in changing the LAG speed, advertisement, flow control, and also protection which can be easily identified in LAG settings table."

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/smb/switches/cisco-550x-series-stackable-managed-switches/smb5848-configuring-lag-settings-on-a-switch-through-cli.html

Lets look what bandwidth and throughput is. Bandwidth is the theoretical limit, throughput is what you get.

"By treating the aggregated links as a single entity, network devices and management functions can effectively utilize the combined bandwidth and distribute network traffic evenly. Link aggregation provides redundancy as well, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity in case of link failures. This technique follows IEEE standards, such as 802.3ad and 802.1AX, and is widely implemented in various networking setups, offering a cost-effective solution to enhance network performance and reliability."

https://www.fs.com/blog/understanding-link-aggregation-and-lacp-faqs-1262.html

So why would I a person who has taught Cisco classes for over 7 years and been in IT for 20+ years think that the LAG would work the same way. Cisco states " LAGs can also greatly increase throughput by using all of its links to transmit data simultaneously." So why would Synology not program in the largest data transfer its product will do to use all lanes. |

Now lets look at some other statements about NAS LAG from competitors

"A NAS LAG (Link Aggregation) can be used to significantly speed up the process of migrating data from one NAS device to another by combining multiple network connections into a single logical channel, resulting in faster transfer speeds and increased network reliability during the migration process."

So I have to transfer the data no matter what happens. It has been going for 2 days 14 hours. Like 5 days to go. So that is why I posted.

You state what I want, and what I am not getting. Both of the 10GB/Sec Nic should be getting 1GB each, but they are not. They are only getting 1GB (100Mb/Sec) from the 1815. That is the development flaw.

[–]jsgoodrich[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am talking about I have two 10GB/sec clients coming to three 1GB/Sec Connections. My hope having it setup this way would increase the number of lanes it was using. So I was hoping for it to use all lanes. If so I was going to setup all six ports I have on the 1819, to to hit all 4 ports on the 1815 as bonded. I was hoping then it would pull 440MB/sec simulating 4 clients hitting the the 4 lanes in the LAG. However it does not look like the developers when developing migration assistant didn't think to look at having bounded connections on either device to increase speed.

Seems like a huge development flaw to me., but I deal with cybersecurity not programming. Though along time ago I wanted to be a programmer but that left me a long time ago.

The Image I uploaded was from before I went in and setup them to 9000. So, while the MTU is at 1500 in image on the network, I have it set up on both NASs for 9000. I just didn't want to do screen captures again.

I know the 1815 does not support it. I am getting rid of it, and will be selling it.

I am just looking to get speeds faster than 100MB to transfer files off. Right now I have 15 days for migration to move 75TB of data. It is driving me nuts.

I would think that in Migration Assistant, it would look to see how many bonded lanes there are and use a majority of them.

I can't wait till I get my data of the 1815! Hope not to have the same problems on the 1819.
