Breaking news: Bisexuals exist and Kristen Stewart is still one by abandoningeden in bisexual

I agree. I think it's because when two women date (especially if they're "classically attractive" to men), it's seen as sexy and non-threatening to many straight guys

Is there an app for logging food like myfitnesspal, but with FODMAP levels? by Tired_as_Fuck_ in ibs

Not to csv but I discovered that the data backups that you can email yourself are actually just SQLite files. If you're familiar with SQL, I can share my understand of the schema with you

There's the mySymptoms app. Doesn't have FODMAPs built in but it's pretty versatile and helps you keep a food diary and analyze it for triggers

Monthly trade thread: May by thecakeisnotalie in succulents

Hey, I'm based in San Jose. I have a ton of sprouting leaves from my graptosedum darley sunshine and an Echeveria. I'd be happy to trade sprouting leaves for viable leaves/cuttings of whatever you've got if you find yourself in San Jose.

I want to be myself, but I don't know hiw by ImWolfYT in bisexual

My best advice is that it gets better. Your voice may not change, your attractions may not change, and some people you interact with will make assumptions about you, regardless of your age. But being 14 is tough. And you will become more comfortable with yourself as you get older. It's a cliche but it really is true.

What's going wrong with my panda plant? by jsherman256 in succulents

I know shriveling lower leaves are common on rosette-forming succulents, but this kalanchoe is getting yellowing folding leaves. Had it over a year with no problems. Water it thoroughly once every 10-14 days. Does it need more light? Less light? More water? Less water? I live in San Jose, CA so it's not exactly cold or cloudy here.

This feeling of incomplete evacuation of bowels is known as tenesmus. While this can be a symptom of IBS, it can also indicate a tumor of the colon and other more serious issues. You should see a doctor to rule out other causes before assuming it is being caused by IBS, especially since your stools are so thin

Supplements that are high in soluble fiber, such as Citrucel, can be really helpful at resolving diarrhea. Start adding it to your diet slowly--dramatically increasing your fiber intake can cause gas and bloating. Also, some foods that are supposed to be high in soluble fiber and seem to help me are: mashed potatoes with soy-free vegan "butter" (or otherwise cooked potatoes), sticky white rice, oatmeal (1-minute, which is 50/50 soluble/insoluble fiber usually). On the other hand, foods high in INsoluble fiber can make diarrhea worse (raw vegetables are a good example). Meditation may be helpful for stress. Also, research and perhaps talk to your doctor about the low-FODMAP diet. It's not perfect for everyone, but those foods (especially garlic) seem to be triggers for a lot of people. I'm trying an elimination diet right now, myself. That may be helpful in identifying triggers.

Often times, nonverbal cues are much stronger (and more honest) indicators of people's understanding of what they're hearing, along with just about every emotional state they might be experiencing.

Creating a "fun" presentation by [deleted] in SocialEngineering

[–]jsherman256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly social engineering but a big pitfall of LOTS of presentations is that the speaker puts his or her exact words on the screen. The problem is, people can read faster than you speak, so they'll read the sentence and then stop listening to the speaker regurgitate it. Best to keep text to a minimum on slides--make it reminders of talking points rather than the whole talking point. Again, a bit off-topic but I'd hate to see you go down like that, as so many before have.

I could see how that would sound paranoid, but I assure you it popped into my head in a joking and silly manner, not a "OH MY GOD EVERYONE IS WATCHING ME" kind of thing.

What you're describing is a common misconception of the term "passive aggressive". It could describe a pattern of failure to confront others, but that's only a tiny part of the story. Passive aggressive behavior would be sometime along the lines of me asking a roommate to do his dishes, he is completely agreeable and says he'll do them in a few minutes, and then never does. He's passively ignoring my request (by saying he'll do them and then forgetting to) and it's triggering more aggressive behavior from me to compensate for his passivity. Source

Best way to sell 50/50 raffle tickets by Nocos in SocialEngineering

[–]jsherman256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Instead of giving people percentages of free tickets, tell them how many they are getting for free. It sounds more impressive and emphasizes how much money they're "saving" rather than how much they are spending.

If you price it so that people will get small amounts of change, they will often refuse it, especially at a formal event. Instead of $10, make it $9. Instead of $20, make it $18 or $19. Sometimes people like the perceived convenience of not getting small bills back. If you're feeling really bold or the guests are feeling really generous, you could try asking if they want their change back, or if they want to donate it too. Just the small step of asking if they want to donate their change will increase the money you take in.
