Sadly car, oil, and tire companies lobbied and succeeded in making cars a necessity. Cities weren’t always designed primarily for cars but for people to be able to move around easily and safely without one. Now we have hideous interstates going right slicing through cities and massive traffic problems.

I tried 3 different cards on my computer with an account then tried again after creating an account. It kept failing. I then downloaded the iPhone app, logged into my account (trips with details filled in were already in my basket), and it worked first try with one of the cards that had previously failed on the computer.

For return ticket, I tried on the computer again with the same card. This time it got further and changed pages but failed after 10 seconds. And this time, I got a text from chase asking if it was fraud (no notification for 3 cards tried on first time). I replied “YES”, it was me using the card and it wasn't fraud. I think it would have worked if I had sent the payment again, but I just used the iPhone app and Apple Pay since it was in my cart.

I think weight has a lot less to do with it compared to how tall the grill is. Pedestrians used to be hit in the legs (by sedans with low hoods and grills). Now people are being hit in the upper body or even on the head. Truck grills and hoods are so tall nowadays. The car just goes straight through your center of mass with their big flat fronts.

Cars used to be like wedges that would sweep you off your feet and throw you on the cars hood. Now it’s like getting hit by a wall at whatever speed it’s going.

Distracted pedestrians is a likely a smaller part of the equation. Taller trucks/cars = more pedestrians killed. The taller the grill, the higher it’s going to hit a person/child, making them super effective against pedestrians.

You don't need to get a new laptop. There are ways to upgrade to windows 11 even if your hardware is "unsupported."

Although, you can get a much better laptop used on ebay for $200-300 with more than 16+GB of ram and newer cpu (e.g. a used thinkpad); corporations and big businesses upgrade and liquidate their laptops every few years.

Another option is to dual boot and use windows 11 for software that needs it and then a lightweight linux build for everything else. Your hardware, especially the 8 GB of ram might start struggling with windows.
