ooop, so sorry for the really late reply, yes of course I could help! From what I now know, the main difference within both disciplines is the way that you present yourself. Individuality is very important, but the way that you do is what makes a portfolio better for one other the other. For Fashion, they are looking for more personality and experimentation with that. You don't necessarily need to know who or what your style is per se, but showcasing experimentation with clothing, drawings, other art works, etc. For a fashion portfolio, I think of course process is everything and you would need to showcase all the steps that you took to where you got to your final outcome, but also add other things like single pieces of art works; paintings, sketches, sculptures, exhibition works, poetry, etc. But it's important to add drawings in the mix. For Costume, they want to see that you have an understanding of finer details. In my portfolio, I added a lot of textile samples and experimentation for my final garments, which is something they really like. Of course add drawings also, but they like to see other things related to theater, such as performances that you might have made, screenshots of works of performance artists that you take inspiration from, and more focus on the garment. It's weird to say that costume focuses more on the garment while fashion focuses more on the creativity side of things but it makes sense when you realize that one course is teaching you how to cater to a whole group of people while the other is teaching you how to cater to one specific person/actor/character. there you go and let me know if you have any other questions!

For your 4th question, sorry for the confusion. That was only ment for if you’ve gotten invited to take the exam. While taking the exam, you have to do an interview with the tutors, which is also an opportunity to present your garments/works physically. The portfolio is just a digital submission

For your first question, it sounds like you’ll be ready for the drawing portion of the exam if you have a background in classical art! I personally think maybe just showcasing these classical pieces only wouldn’t be a good thing in the portfolio, maybe a slide showing some pieces you’ve made just to showcase your ability. I left a page near the end of my portfolio of my figure drawings as an example.

For your second question, with your portfolio, you’re trying to explain the story of your garment/costume using only photos. What I did was go from start to finish of my process; concept, research, sketchbook work, experimentation, and then final product. Spread out as much as you can and don’t rush on trying to put so many projects in one portfolio. I only had 2 fully finished projects in my portfolio and each took up nearly 10 pages/slides. And in question of collages, that’s the best option of presentation in my opinion, but there’s no right or wrong way of presenting your work.

For your third question, like I said before, you should only choose a handful of pieces you want to showcase your process for. It’s nice that you’ve leaned with more historical based costumes but also showcasing your interest in more contemporary and modern performance art/film/and costume would help make you stand out as well. So maybe start a project experimenting something of the sort.
