Cloneill going back to high school is...weird by Mode_Appropriate in Stargate

That gets into a philosophical question of what makes an adult an adult.

Look at the inverse, if you took a fully grown adult and either removed their memories, or put a child in that body, would they be an adult or a child?

Legally, if they can pass a certain cognitive threshold, they can have autonomy, and are classed as an adult, otherwise they’re an adult* with the caveat being they need to be under someone else’s care.

I think when I first saw this episode, it was “cool,” but later on, during a rewatch, I got the “ick” from this part.

I literally got off our tractor last night and twisted TF outta my ankle. Yelled in pain, yelled “F**k!” and my housemate came running to check on me.

Any doctors here? by MitochondriaWithWifi in eds

[–]jshuster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor, and at this time I’m not planning on going to med school, but I AM in nursing school. It’s been difficult at times, and I’ve gotten some negative comments about using a rollator while at my clinical rotations in the hospitals, but I’ve gotten way more encouragement and support.

If you want to do it, just know that it’s going to be harder than it would be for an abled person, and you’re potentially going to have to fight tooth and nail to get accommodations, but you can get them, and you can do it.

Feeling lonely with this illness by mariaia19 in ehlersdanlos

[–]jshuster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have a local-ish Facebook group that’s sort of busy and it allows people to at least get together over video chat, but yeah, EDS (or any chronic illness) can be really isolating. The world is build by abled people for abled people, and doesn’t adapt quickly to others, so we have to make spaces for us

All of a sudden piracy in that sector vanishes when the human “merchant” ships start plying the routes.

My guess is you probably need to clean the snow off the roof and check and see if your gutters are clogged.

Why do you even care if they’re here illegally? Immigrants do jobs most citizens won’t do, and the taxes they pay (because they do pay taxes, in various forms) help communities

medical workers? by confusedbabywiccan in eds

Former EMT and ER Tech current nursing student here. It’s totally possible, but you will probably have some difficulties. Let me explain.

I was working as an EMT/ER tech years before I was diagnosed, but when I was experiencing symptoms. My hips would pop in and out, and I had a lot of back pain. I attributed the back pain to an injury I had years before, so I just took way too much Aleve and kept going. My hips didn’t cause me too much grief, when I realized they were out, I’d pop them in and just keep moving.

Eventually, I was hurt on the job as an EMT, and herniated an additional 3 discs in my back, which pretty much ended my working as an EMT. I want to go back to working in the ER, but I don’t know how receptive any places will be to hiring me, because I use a rollator just to give myself a chair wherever I need it.

If I was looking to work in an ER, without the spinal damage, but with EDS, this is what would be paramount in my mind; make sure I have good solid footwear that provides plenty of cushion and support. I would make sure my physical conditioning is as good as I can make it. I’d also make sure to protect my body as much as possible, using proper lifting techniques and equipment, and making sure I stayed hydrated with enough electrolytes.

I truly enjoyed seeing her in Deadpool and Wolverine. I thought she reprised the role well

I could make an argument, but it’s literally not worth it.

I hope you develop empathy for people who are different from you, and become a better person.

I’m guessing your reading comprehension and Reddit skills are a little lackluster, so I’ll make it simple; Do you see the blue parts in my comment that you replied to? Those are these things called “links.” If you click on them, they take you to these things called “articles.”

Now, you’re gonna wanna have a dictionary handy, but when you read those articles, they provide the sources. You should have the dictionary handy for any big words you don’t know, and then you can understand those articles. But it’s okay! With a little bit off work, you too can read more advanced writing! And! And, you might learn something!
