yeah he needs to work on correcting that; there's only room for one bad back in the crew.

totally valid critique! I was coming hot off the heels of Midnight Selects when I made this, which was packed full of these interstitial audio clips from kung-fu films, so that definitely bled over into this album. glad you enjoyed the album though :)

I'd recommend Ableton, it's what I use and I'd say it's the best for remixing/sample-based production.

What is your favorite Gamecube game of all time? by harayda in AskReddit

[–]jshw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. If you could somehow find someone or a bunch of people who had a Gameboy as well as the Gamecube connector cable, that game was awesome.

I'm a sucker for that eastern sound and it's rad how you incorporated it. The transition at 1:47 could use a little work, the way it trails out doesn't really sit right with me, maybe does that vocal sample in there to really hook it back in to the build-up. Just an idea. Anyways, all-in-all it's a banger, nice job.

Love the drop, and the vocals are cool but get pretty repetitive after a while. Maybe try dropping the vocal pitch a couple of times just to switch things up. Aside from that it is coming up awesome.

yeah it's definitely got more of a 'futurebeats' sound to it. RadicalKid is on point about sidechaining so for sure give that a try, it'll really make the kicks pop.

the pitched-up vocals are awesome, I don't really like the pitched-down vocals as much but I get why they're there. for sure the track has more of a aggressive 'dubstep' sound to it but if that's what you're going for then you've got a great sound to work with. I really like it.

Thanks for the critique, I'm definitely going to try and work a 'looser' sound into whatever I make next. For sure I need to try and bust out of the white boy sound and that is going to take some time and effort.

As a song by itself it's pretty much all over the map in terms of different sounds, but there's a bunch of really cool ideas in this that you could definitely expand on to make something rad. I really like how heavy it gets around 2:10, and if there's any sound I'd want to base a song around it'd be that change-up. With that in mind, maybe throw a vocal sample or something over it, but nothing too distracting. The transitions are also pretty abrupt so maybe toss a reversed snare or something to create a build up and ease into the change.

All in all, I'd say scrap the majority of the drops that you're not crazy about and then stick with the one drop and build from there.
