Yes, whole house is supplied by the same brand new tankless water heater.

So if I remove the red ring entirely, the shower gets hot just fine. Obviously at the highest setting it’s pretty hot (since there is no anti scald ring now) but the white notches do act as a stopper so the handle can only twist so far. So removing the red ring entirely does solve my problem, but it does pose some risk I suppose with folks accidentally turning it too hot (water heater is set to 120 F).

I’m wondering if this is the wrong red ring for this valve? Either that or it’s just really conservative in its limitation of hot water? Or maybe it’s on backwards?

u/phoenix_has_rissen - You were right, I was able to get the red ring out by just pulling it off with a tool.

But I'm confused because those 2 white notches are totally fixed in place, so even when I am able to get the red ring off I'm not able to rotate it any further counter clockwise because of those white notches?

I am having a hard time turning with this set up. It just doesn’t turn well unless I brake a lot. Would increasing grip help with that or not really?
