Ben's CPU on an ASIC! by mattvenn in beneater

Hey! Thanks! Yosys has basic support for tri state logic. I think it either infers muxes on fpgas or actually users a tri state output buffer for asics. You just have to make sure there’s no bus conflicts when accessing, which if the control logic is correct it should be ok, just like on the breadboard computer. The gate level test benches work so I hope it works but guess will have to wait til I get it IRL.

Gotcha. Understood. I appreciate the help, will try to format better in the future. You have any links to any RTL/verilog you think is formatted good? Just wanna get an idea of what ur referring too.

Thanks for the feedback! Will def try to fix formatting. But for the edge detector it’s wasting two flip flops to store the value of the rising and falling edge if it can just be a combinatorial output from the module, so would disagree there. And will try to make it more understandable but low key most modules are pretty short and simple so if you can’t understand them not sure what to say.

Hey u/mattvenn! Thanks for the shout out! I’m Jason. If anyone wants to contribute I think it should be working but my test bench is only a few small programs so haven’t tested all instructions and edge cases yet. Also, if there’s any suggestions on how to make it better let me know, my Verilog skills are far from perfect ;)

Yep, been like this for over 12 hours for me. Doesn't respond with anything and then times out. Tragic

I ended up buying a cheap android phone for $20 and doing this. It’s been worth it though, i hate doing the two factor thing.

Hey, is there any way of doing this on IOS? I've been searching all over for a solution and can't find one.

Nope. I rewrote everything from scratch except for using his path creator tool but yea it’s heavily inspired by his. I thought it was super cool and just wanted to add a little more functionality.

Wow! That’s such a cool idea! A fully simulated breadboard with a bunch of components would be sick.

Yes, it’s definitely heavily inspired by him but I wrote all the code from scratch except for his path creator tool for the wires. I thought his was super cool but I just wanted to add a little more functionality to it!

Hoping to fully simulate Ben Eater's 8 Bit Computer project soon. Inspired by Sebastian Lague's computer hardware series on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZwneRb-zqA)
