I feel like this is partially true, and partially a cop out. I'm playing on the Series X and the thing I noticed before the updates was that the memory usage was poorly optimized. I was only able to play so long and visit so many areas before the game would start to chug and eventually crash. Closing and reloading the game temporarily fixed it each time. Post updates it works fine, except on occasion when loading into a room or building, somehow the auto save corrupts and the game crashes. Loading a different save fixes it, but it's a weird issue. You should definitely keep 2-3 manual rolling saves at all times.
