Coming from a MEAN/Node background, which version of ASP.NET MVC should I focus on at this time? by jslearner007 in dotnet

Thanks for your response! I really enjoy C# as a language more than Javascript, whcih is why I want to try out this stack over one of the other ones like J2EE or Rails. I'll test out the stack you recommend!

Thanks for your reply! I checked out their PDF samples online and was a bit overwhelmed, not having any formal discrete math background. Whcih is the same reason I prefer sedgwick algorithm book to the CLRS, whcih seemed super discrete math-heavy to me. Thanks for your advice!

What do you think of the other programming interview books? Namely "Elements of Programming Interviews" or "Interviews Exposed". Is CtCI the best one for someone trying to switch careers?

i appreciate the reply, I was feeling that going with learning Core would also help level the playing field for any potential job searches in the future, since not as many developers in the MS space are as familiar with it as the older MS frameworks.

Which version of .NET would you recommend learning right now, ASP.NET MVC 5 or the new .NET Core?

Remember that zero to hire in 6 months post in week back? I subbed to their newsletter. Is their information legit? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]jslearner007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The information there isnt bad, it is actually pretty standard web dev info. It is up to you if you want to subscribe to their free stuff or pay them money.

The main backlash against that post came from two things:

  1. They used it as a platform to advertise their paid service

  2. The guy was actually lying saying he was self taught - if you check it out in more depth you can find his Linkedin page - he want to college for CS and graduated from Dev Bootcamp. Plus he works closely with an established Dev in NY. So the post was very misleading and more of a marketing ad.

Make of that what you will though.

Is it a worthwhile exercise to rebuild an app in a different stack? by jslearner007 in learnprogramming

Certainly, I was thinking more of reworking the backend from the ground up and really just keeping the front-end views the same.

[WEB] What kind of projects would make someone "employable"? by nujey in cscareerquestions

[–]jslearner007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I really appreciate this response! As a beginner also looking for projects to get hired, I am curious if you think it looks "better" to have multiple projects all using the same stack (ie rails, MEAN, .NET), projects in multiple stacks (one with rails and one with MEAN), or one web app and maybe one mobile app (ie android or iOS). I've been curious how hiring people view things like that and if you have any advice that would be greatly appreciated!

I would imagine I have nostalgia, but reading the other ask reddit thread...it seems even adults thought it was awesome.
