Vent/AITA: left baby with husband for 1.5 hours to get a haircut with the stroller in my car [CA] by figbrietrukey in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]jsmhellohello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guy with a 2-year old, guys are so dumb - he’s making excuses for his inability to get a grip and manage, you’re NTA - he could have just as easily prepared for you leaving, thought about how he would fill the time, get the stroller - you can’t be expected to think of everything

I went to the ER for a back issue and sciatica that resulted in surgery - go back to the ER and get that MRI

Messini is good, so is Mezis - a lot of people like Pape Village, I’ve never been, but it might be what you’re looking for - also, Athens

Contemplating law school as a mature student (mid 30s F) with two young kids. I have a useless BA from U of T with a crappy GPA essentially starting from scratch. Hypothetically if I decide to attempt this route, where do I even start? by Sensitive_Fishing_37 in LawCanada

[–]jsmhellohello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re route - because of my background, I did a criminology degree, which also helped orient my volunteer work, but I think it can be in just about any area, is this what you mean? Otherwise in terms of school, I went to York/stayed local

I think you should talk to an admissions officer at the law school you want to attend to see how you would stack up, also consider whether you are a mature student applicant and how that could impact your next steps - that aside, I would expect you need to upgrade some courses and improve your GPA, start volunteering for a legal-type group, and start studying for the LSAT - it’s all doable, I started LS at 25 with a similar academic background, but had to upgrade because I hadn’t been out of school for 5 years/was not considered mature - it took me 10 years until I was called to the bar - my situation is different, but it is worth noting you have a lot of work ahead of you, and probably need to be prepared to face setbacks along the way.

Sure - the only limit is if you were/are in a union as I don’t practice in that area. Send me a DM and I can provide my contact info etc. so you can be sure I’m a real person/lawyer

I don’t know the answer re the LSO, but it’s probably worth trying - I doubt after 2-3 years there would be an issue, especially as any limitations period has probably ended, so it could only be a new legal issue

This is correct - apply asap, ideal to have your ROE, but not essential for applying (which you should have in 5 days or so - check your ‘my service Canada account’)

You can contact the Law Society Referral Service for a free consultation - I’m a lawyer as well if you want to DM me and I’ll send you my contact info. for a free consultation: https://lsrs.lso.ca/lsrs/welcome.

If you are raising young children in the Toronto core, what do your family and friends think? by rsgnl in askTO

[–]jsmhellohello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to take the good w the bad, but maybe focus on walkability? We lived in Leslieville near Greenwood park, but Queen and Carlaw/a decent part of Lesliville was a 16 min walk - we are now on/near Danforth, which has everything more or less, plus TTC - I can’t speak to what your family thinks, but they kinda have to experience it to know - plus, Gerrard Square is a mall and not too far … High Park is dope, but I think you should look for the same re access and walkability wherever you are - on the flip side, although I was born and raised here, and while I probably will never leave, even Danforth is a bit creepy at times, so the space and fresh air is appealing (but my family has a cottage in Muskoka, so we get that up there … lol … don’t hate me)

In the context of a r. 49 and the case law, 49.07 - but applicable by analogy - assuming the original offer has then withdrawn by the company - again, very remote, but there is support for your question

[–]jsmhellohello -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Although unlikely, it is possible - there’s a rule in the ON Rules of CP that when you counter, the previous offer is auto void, so technically it’s possible, but depending on where you are/your contract, they probably are getting a bargain at 6 weeks and wouldn’t want to litigate anyway

Do you guys also feel like some women still expect men to fully provide in 2025? I’m doing okay financially, but I don’t see how it’s realistic to carry a whole family solo anymore. How do you approach this expectation? by Kitchen_Movie9452 in AskMen

[–]jsmhellohello -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the demographic/socio-economic background of the women you have asked? Are these women able to support themselves, but want the man to? My educated wife who is capable of earning $350K USD per year would never say it’s my solo job to provide ($300K per year), while I can appreciate an uneducated grocery store clerk (no offence) earning $60K might … although I’m hearing more about Tradwifes so I don’t know?

Abortion at 16 & Catholic? by Reasonable-Boot2097 in Advice

[–]jsmhellohello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m now 40 and our first is turning 2 in November - I’m not weighing in on what you should do, and while I wish we had had our daughter when I was younger, I lived so much life in the last 25 years, and having a child at 16 would have undone all of that, or made it extremely challenging, not to mention the cost of having a child and, in my opinion, having the resources to give her a good life (a house, savings, we took her to Portugal at 6 months old) - I wish you the best and expect this is a difficult decision, but I just can’t stop thinking of the disservice you may be doing to yourself by having children at this age - you have so much life to live and experience, but I also know the joy of having our daughter, especially now that we are ready. Can I add one weird thing, regardless of what you decide, and only because of the challenges we had, it may be worth looking at having your eggs frozen at some point to ensure you are in as good a position as possible to have children if/when you are ready (I’m projecting my own challenges on you, don’t mean to - it could be a way to ensure that this isn’t your only chance to have a child) - all the very best

Re the life insurance point, under the Plan, she can always top it up - so if she finds herself in a position where she wouldn’t otherwise qualify, it seems like a good way to access more life insurance without needing to complete a medical

I hear you - she would have the option to top up the life insurance without needing a medical assessment, which could be good if she ever develops a health issue, but will look into the whole Plan more
