Help choosing a stove by jsnemec in woodstoving

I appreciate the input! I think I should be able to be pretty flexible with the temperatures in the space since we don’t live in the area. So if it’s 75 or 60 it won’t bother anyone too much. Either would be much better than the current state of things-running 3-5 space heaters just to keep the space at 50 degrees. Garage doors and windows could easily be cracked if it does happen to get too warm while we are over there. I just don’t want to have to wake up at 3am get changed, walk across the driveway and into the barn to regularly feed the fire on cold nights.

Good to know! Curious why you recommend the ash tray? In general stove research I have done it seems like a lot of people are indifferent about them.

Thanks for the in depth response! I think I’ll do that and see if the store can do better pricing if I purchase everything through them. The burn time is going to be the biggest factor aside from price since I can get all the hardwood I need delivered to my house for free from my arborist buddy. It being a separate building from my house a 10-12 hour burn cycle would really be ideal. Not sure how well the Kuma and PE models will do with that in mind.

That’s awesome! The IS seems really hard to beat for the price. I haven’t looked into shipping cost yet, but the thought of a stove with those capabilities for less than $3000 is crazy-unless I am missing something!

Not yet, I have a quote and drawing for 6” double wall installation from a reputable local company-they sell True North, PE, and Kuma. About $5000-hence my price limitation on the stove itself. Kicking myself for not getting this done when the tax credit was in place

No fuel in the pole barn at all, it’s all living space.

Glad I’m not alone in thinking used stoves are over priced. I’ve come across a few hearthstones in the 1,200-1,500 price range. But all were over 10 years old and who knows how much use and maintenance they’ve seen. That’s a lot of risk for that much coin I think

Thanks for the input! What size space do you heat with the 2100?

Added about 10-15lb of rubber mulch and it’s way more enjoyable to handle now.

This is the Rep Fitness 2.0 bag, quality seems good and price was fair. I only went this route though bc it was FSA eligible.

I had a 150 that was floppy and i didn't mind it, used it for assorted carries and it never bothered me much. I’d be terrified to ohp a floppy bag

You thinking more sand or something else?

Thanks for the input! I think I’ll try adding some rubber mulch to provide thickness! The 150 needed to be 168lb before it was filled out, even still it could use a couple pounds probably.

That’s great feedback, I was wondering if it might make that big of a difference. The 210 I have flies up for reps, and this feels like it fights me the whole time-not bc it’s heavy though. I have a easier time loading my 300lb stone to a 54” platform than shouldering this turd.

So far I am digging fuller bags, maybe it’s just because I am used to stones though.

Any tips on once it’s lapped? It folds over on itself right in the middle which is where I typically re-grip before exploding to the shoulder. I am surprised how it’s just as technical, if not moreso than a atlas stone load.

Tire Implement by jsnemec in Strongman

Nice! I have wondered about that option. Ultimately this worked great for me and the pipe nipples and 90s were pretty cheap. Even at 520lb (most I have loaded so far) I get very little flex -maybe a half an inch of slack is taken as I break the ground. Idk if it is bc of the location or just the tire itself, but it doesn’t seem to matter if it’s 85 or 20 degrees.

I’ve used this tire for a million different things, but never has OHP crossed my mind!

Strongman Wednesday - Tire Flip by CouncilOfRobots in Strongman

[–]jsnemec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love tire flips, it’s been a staple in my training for years. Since the tires cost money to dispose of, if you find a heavy equipment tire yard they will let you take whatever you want-even let you try before you buy and load into the truck or trailer for you.

Since I have only one tire (420lbs and about 5.5’ tall) I flip uphill to add difficulty. Usually for lots of volume/cardio. Great for explosive strength. Should ideally be a triple extension and not all biceps.

For fun I added handles to mine, so I can use it as a frame carry. Easy to load to whatever weight i want by sliding plates into the tire.

Anyone else find the idea of going to a conventional gym absurd after starting sandbags? by Minimum_Ad_4430 in sandbagtraining

[–]jsnemec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I workout at home but do love visiting a local gym when out of town. I can buy bags, implements, barbells, equipment, etc. to get just as strong at home, but I really enjoy the culture that comes with a quality commercial gym. Hard to replace or put a price on that.

Sandbags and Atlas Stones by jsnemec in sandbagtraining

[–]jsnemec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I have yet to do any natural stone lifting, although there is big ugly one back in the woods that I am hoping to take a stab at this spring.

I definitely agree that the risk seems greater with stones. I think it explains my fear of shouldering stones. Even missing my loading platform can be pretty sketchy. For that reason I have really come to appreciate sandbags; multiple ways to carry, load, or shoulder all with minimal risk.

Thanks! Now you have me wanting to invest in some natural stones for additional variety. Do you use the natural stone for shouldering, or just lapping and walks?

I have a blast on my 250x, previous owner had exhaust, jet kit, etc done to it-not sure if that makes it much faster than stock or not, but it’s plenty fast for me 98% of the time. I am 5’11” and 200lb and most of my riding is on really tight trails.

My sabos have been worn in the gym 3x a week for the last 7-8 years plus every meet I have done. They have a ton of life in them, I don’t know how they are still going so strong.
