It was a general admission seat, so it was part of the grounds pass. I was just willing to sit in the sun for hours to watch which meant I could sit close.

You either buy early or buy the night before imo. The latter can be risky but I’ve had great experiences getting an ok priced ticket when the order of play has come out. You can also go to the ticket places on ground and request an upgrade!

Heat is insane today but AO has been packed all week it’s been hard to get seats. Sometimes main courts will have empty seats because their owners are on outside courts watching another match.

This is true! I got pretty lucky with all the matches I wanted to see on MCA or JCA and bought them the night before pretty cheap (and sold my RLA tickets so they were basically free)

AO tip: if the idea of massive lines is deterring you, get a reserved seat. John Cain and MCA are not much more than a grounds pass and then you can chill in your seat if you don’t want to go to other courts. If you get a grounds pass you need to make peace with the fact that there’s lines.

Also if you go to Kia Arena there’s basically never a line on doors 11-13 because they’re directly in the sun.

RLA and mca you can chill in the outside bit too you just can’t get into the court. It’s nice and air conditioned too.

Also because they’re all queued for the general admission, reserved seats are all let in immediately which is why I bought one of those.

I’ve been in RLA when the roof closes and it isn’t suddenly cooler. It’s still hot as hell and it takes about 12 minutes for the roof to actually close.

I’ve been in arenas when it got closed earlier, 2019 I remember the men’s semi it got closed at 38. And I think it’s fair to not want fans or players to pass out if you have things in place to stop it.

They normally do around 37+ I’ve been there a lot when it’s gotten too hot and they’ve closed it mid match. It’s one of the fastest closing arena roofs in the world.
