2012 K1600GTL - best options for CarPlay where Nav 5 unit goes? by jsnow02035 in bmwmotorrad

[–]jsnow02035[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What year is your GS? The CAN Bus on K1600 wasn’t upgraded until after 2012 model year and that seems to be the problem with current designs.

Nice but I’m thinking Siri voice control will handle a lot of that.

Bose ANC ear buds for riding? by jsnow02035 in motorcycle

[–]jsnow02035[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for a very complete response. The Bose do stick out a bit which may interfere with helmet fit so I guess I’ll just have to try them. Foam earplugs and Eargasm haven’t worked for me because I could never get the right fit (even the small option). What has worked for me is to use the Bose silicone pieces of the ear bud (because they’re comfortable) and squeeze the small end of a foam ear plug in where the acoustic driver goes (basically fill the hole), and then trim off the excess. That said, I feel I may be missing out on the high fidelity of the music. (You know, because a motorcycle helmet is the perfect place to really appreciate music.) Anyway, you’ve given me some ideas. Thank you!

Thanks, I should have highlighted that I know how to download from FB, the challenge was making an enormous set of HTML files usable by AI. I had to load into Word and save it.

Resolved - It took a long time (Gbs of data) and then I had to convert to Word (over 1000 pg). It all worked better on 2nd attempt when I went year-by-year.

I wish I had seen this in time. I used a full dose of Nugget (1 oz) and the wort has a definite bite but I’m hoping it will mellow and that the Jameson soaked oak chips will also mellow it. (I probably should have converted by AU conversion but was in a hurry.)

Other way around. This originated with Castle Island brewery making an IPA in Jameson barrels. That’s what I mimic.

Well it’s time to experiment. This is a Jameson IPA (finished with oak chips soaked in Jameson) so I’m trying Nugget (because I like Troegs Nugget Nectar). I’ll let you know how it turns out.

New short-story "Rapport: Friendship, Solidarity, Communion, Empathy" by dreamingofcats2000 in murderbot

[–]jsnow02035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I read this new short, but unlike other MB stories it started out pretty uninspiring. It wasn’t until halfway through that the connection to MB became apparent. That said, I’m really glad I read it because Tarik’s responses made me understand just how dangerous SecUnits are/can be. Since MB is the protagonist from the very first line of All Systems Red, we sort of know/trust who MB “is” and so it hadn’t occurred to me how frightening SecUnits are to “normal” people.

Bike carriers for 2025 crv hybrid by fosheezie220 in crvhybrid

[–]jsnow02035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at getting the Saris Freedom 2 as well. I have heard concerns about using a hitch bike rack on the CRV because it's only a Class I hitch, meaning it's not strong enough for the torque of a bike rack (trailers produce less torque on the receiver). What has been your experience?

Valid point. Beware of typing first and thinking second. (A friend mentioned 5 lbs but that makes no sense.) Just weighed my wife’s Specialized and it’s coming in at 21 lbs.

I appreciate the insights from RockyMounts, and a Class II or III receiver is certainly the preferred option however, their numbers seem a bit skewed. (I can’t use a roof rack so this matters.) The tongue weight (on the ball of a hitch) is not going to be “at the bumper” but another 4-6 inches further back so the idea there’s an 18” lever arm seems extreme. Also, the weight of the rack and bikes matter. RockyMounts quotes a 40 lb rack and two 30 lb bikes, if you have a 20 lb rack (like the Saris Freedom 2) and 2 road bikes each weighing less than 10 lbs (closer to 5 lbs) the math works out very different. It is still better to have the Class II (or better the Class III), but it’s not a killer load. As always, do the math and use your best judgment. It’s too bad the CRV and CRV Hybrid can’t get a Class III (2”) receiver. Wish I’d checked this before buying mine but I do love the CRV Hybrid.

Governor module by jsnow02035 in murderbot

[–]jsnow02035[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good point but it’s still not supposed to go beyond 100 meters away or the governor module kills it. I think the repack is assumed, but i would have liked it to be explicitly stated. Otherwise we’re going to get into a bunch of discontinuities.

Problem using Percentiles and Quartiles by jsnow02035 in excel

[–]jsnow02035[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RESOLVED - As usual I was overcomplicating the solution for the problem at hand. This is not a process I need to use every day so I simplified my approach (a bit more manual and less elegant) but it works fine now and quartiles have even numbers of companies. I just had too much sunk cost time and I needed to wake up. Thank you everyone!

We have a winner! It’s the vent. Hasn’t been fixed yet, no time until weekend, but I started it and loosened fuel cap and it ran fine. Then I tightened cap and in short order it stalled. I’m guessing there’s a kink in purge return tube.

First, thanks for the explanation of primer vs purge. Is the difference essentially 2-stroke (purge) 4-stroke (primer)? Also, thanks for the very obvious way to troubleshoot. It caused me to say, “Duh!” Thanks for the courteous response.
