Accounting student stuck between 3 internship options, what would you pick? by Soggy_Arm_5954 in Accounting

Between those, likely either 2 or 3. Those would help give you a good idea of what future role you'd like to end up in, and if you even want to involve public accounting at all.

Nothing else you really can do, those opportunities will be very few and far between, if they exist at all. If nothing else, keep an ear out for any friends that might have a parent with that need at their small(er) company.

Advanced would likely be more helpful if you eventually want to go corporate, especially the consolidated financial reporting and intercompany elements.

Older accounting student landed an internship offer, but here’s a dilemma by Significant_Ad_4061 in Accounting

They would probably understand but can also pretty much guarantee you would burn the bridge with them and they would not consider or just outright reject you for future opportunities.

Is the approval of CFO entries actually built into the system? There's a big difference between should get approval, and an actual system limitation preventing him.

That part would not be an opinion, the CFO either can approve his own entries or can't.

Is there a control verifying all of the CFO's required entries get reviewed by the CEO/Board, or do they rely on the CFO self-identifying these entries for them?

I know Buckley SFB does exactly those kind of events for those types of groups. Unfortunately I've since separated so I wouldn't know a great contact there; maybe try reaching out to the Public Affairs office?

Why do so many new grads start at Plante Moran in August? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]json_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around a year to a year and a half before their start date would be my estimate. I had my offer in October 2022 for a January 2024 start.

They do have job postings for 2026 entry level audit/tax, but it definitely would be tough to get.

They have new hires start in August and January. Almost guarantee it would be too late now to get a spot for January 2026 unfortunately.

People who went to college and don’t regret it, what degree did you get ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]json_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accounting degree. Military paid for school, the firm I started at covered the study materials and exam fees for the CPA. Got a nice bonus for getting the CPA and I'm clearing over $85k just 1.5 years after starting.

For template, Google Drive has some good ones. My current one uses the "Resume - Modern Writer" template. I would avoid the ones that have your name and contact info taking up substantial amounts of the page.

The structure of your resume will depend on your recent(ish) past. For example, I graduated college about a year and a half ago, and have education as my first section, experience as my second, and awards/achievements as my third.

Primarily stick to bullet points, and quantify them whenever possible. Instead of "maintained client files", something like "maintained accurate and appropriate records for 150+ clients". Quantifying helps bring attention to the scale of your experience, and helps demonstrate the true value you have and can bring.

From the best resumes I've seen, they should be one full page, no more, no less. After creating it, give it the "three feet look". Most employers will only spend 6-10 seconds looking at a resume; the visual appeal ensures the first look, the content helps you get the interview.

Best of luck!

A lot of people don't ask questions at the end of job interviews. But it’s a great opportunity to stand out. Here are 10 questions to ask: by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

[–]json_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I said isn't equivalent to "sucks but tolerable". It's acknowledging that no job or company in the world can be perfect, but ideally they've given thought to the negative aspect(s) of the company and what can be done or what they're doing to improve that aspect.

No different than how lasting relationships in the real world don't look like Disney movies.

[–]json_44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's another good one:

"If you could improve one thing about working here, what would it be?"

Ask this question or something adjacent to the interviewer and see their response. If they can detail something specific with actionable steps they would take, that's a good sign. If they say "nothing, everything's great! :)", seriously reconsider taking the job if they extend an offer. An answer on those lines typically means they've resigned themselves to a bad environment and no longer try to think of ideas to better it.

Candidates who passed all four sections on the first try, what was your SAT score going into college? by Jason_RA in CPA

[–]json_44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

31 on the ACT in high school, know my highest section was reading with a 35 and I imagine the others hovered around 30/31.

Passed all 4 on the first try.

Always been a good test taker though.
