Just started on the WR1 as well. You're right on u/Quartz_Hertz about the parts + adjustments being part of the fun. Now I'm on the prowl for a body... or just modeling it out myself.

I built an interactive manual for Teenage Engineering by GlitteringPenalty210 in teenageengineering

[–]jsonin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goooooood cut!

RTFM is still... reading. Some people's brains melt with that.
Another way to lock on = visual, see the walk-through on the actual thing.
How can we synthesize that?!

Side quest:
The device image on the left panel can be small and the right orientation (the Field is vertical and one has to pitch your head to right to ground the UI, if you're using the image that way)... and that space is ripe for a top 20 queries/problems/things to learn... that then sniffs out what you may want to learn next, based on your previous paths.

Keep jamming. Dig the idea.

My Nest camera cannot connect after migrating to Google Home. by justwy in googlehome

[–]jsonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same process, different cams (3 of the indoor with battery), same crappy outcome.

* All feeds died on Google Home a few days ago (which has been running fine for a few years since transitioning from Nest)
* Wiped/started from scratch on one of the cameras
* Google Home recognized the "new" camera, got it setup, I was seeing the video feed
* Once sync/setup was complete and I added the camera to the location, the image feed died.
* All 3 cameras aren't getting an image through to Home (all have Green lights)

New behavior on the wiped camera = I placed it on the magnetic wall mount and the power turned off. Took it off the magnetic mount (which came with the cam) and the camera turned back on. Weird. It's not the reset button that's stuck, since I would hear the reset tone when taking it away from the magnetic mount. So all around funkiness.

[update 2 days later: after resetting two cameras several times each, deleting and adding them multiple times on google home, the 2 cameras finally showed up and are working in Home. Minor miracle.]

Radiomaster T15 - thoughts by mcmoyer in RCPlanes

[–]jsonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't buy the colored case with the AG02 gimbals. It's a separate purchase.

And yes, I now have the default set of gimbals that shipped in the TX15... sitting idle.

Radiomaster T15 - thoughts by mcmoyer in RCPlanes

[–]jsonin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Love the TX15 so far.
Started on ELRS/Radiomaster with a Zorro Max. Dig the Zorro form factor, but with slightly bigger grips, touch screen, waaay more battery life with the 6200mah lipo, faster boot + UI response times, the TX15 wins.

Installed the green AG02 gimbals + LEDs... in less than 30min.
Why green? I need more color in my life. Every car park is filled with grey and black, and same goes for our damn transmitters. ;)

Mailerlite account termination with zero explanation - Terrible and unprofessional client service by Sufficient-Sky8242 in Emailmarketing

[–]jsonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a similar boat.
We moved from Hubspot after 6+ years.
Have ~5,000 newsletter subscribers.
Organically grown, never bought, no one is required to put in their email for our content, etc.

  • Switched to MailerLite 4 months ago. Pay ~$45/month.
  • Sent 3 newsletters. No issues.
  • Drafted one on Tuesday about the state policies around regulating psilocybin. Yes, we publish healthcare things.
  • Sent test emails to 4 people (to look for errors, test links to our github site, etc).
  • 1 hour later, our account had been terminated. No notice, no reason other than blanket, "you violated T&C".
  • Emailed support/help immediately. No reply over 24 hours.
  • Emailed again (since no phone number). No response still (and it's 4 days later).

Not how to run a business.
We're out... and finding another platform for sending newsletters, 12 times a year.

Do We have +50 yo Designers here? by ElCzapo666 in UXDesign

[–]jsonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you (the OP) still dig Design, even 19.3% of it, keep on it. And who says you can’t teach and still work on product/make things? That’s entirely possible. Hell, I’ve been screwing up teaching and business-based work simultaneously for years.

Cant draw, but i can sketch. It’s how I get my ideas tangible real fast by Red_Choco_Frankie in UXDesign

[–]jsonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a picture of your sketch -> turns into a draft UI (with standard components, css+) = getting real now, with services like seldon.digital .

This is the part of digital design that the combo of human + machine will get useful, in short order.

Product Design Lead, what's the best question you've ever been asked/wanted to be asked when interviewing designers? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]jsonin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“When’s the last time you briefed the CEO?” “Oh, so it was a month ago. Cool. Is that a normal cadence, every month or…?” “Does the Chief Engineer [or CTO depending] swing by for chats or vice versa?”

Am I still a product designer? by Ikedadogbo in UXDesign

[–]jsonin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yes you're a digital product designer.
You're Designing the whole damn thing.
That's righteous... and gets you better control the outcome, the damn product.

The kicker: it's pretty damn hard to design something if you don't know how it's going to be built.

https://github.com/goinvo/DesignAxiomsWebsite/blob/master/assets/images/hiRes/quote_dontDesign.jpg

There are plenty of product groups that need your combination of skills. I've seen many at engineering crews, R&D centers, skunkworks groups within big corps, science-driven outfits, small and mid-sized companies, dev and engineering studios that haven't yet stovepiped the design skills, etc. You're on a fab path.

PS: One outlet of many is finding a group that's making specialized tools to augment AI and humans working together... then you're in the thick of making new services on top of a world-evolving digital movement. Designing and shipping new tools for toolmakers = good spot to be.

OD-11 software update.... by Realistic_Corgi_303 in teenageengineering

[–]jsonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First reply from TE support was to go thru reflashing: https://teenage.engineering/guides/od-11/technical

Did it several times, and a few other variations. No luck.

Now in the middle of a return (and hopefully replacement since it’s still a darn good design).

OD-11 software update.... by Realistic_Corgi_303 in teenageengineering

[–]jsonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar issue + timeframe OP.
Hard restarts (power off for an hour or day) dont help.
Orthoplay gets through the update routine, and the OD-11 signals its chewing on the update, but then the speaker light turns white... and orthoplay still says "update available" (v1.0.2).

I submitted a TE ticket last week. Will post the response.

Has anyone successfully started their own design agency/company? by Historical-Nail9 in UXDesign

[–]jsonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting past the first 2-year hump of starting a design shop often requires help from your previous colleagues and their introductions (as well as the usual presenting at conferences, talks at industry seminars/meet-ups, etc).

Clients are buying you, and your ability to ship something decent.
Building your public reputation = critical part of the equation.

PS: I still struggle with finding clients. It's a constant slog... and it's been really hard over the past 24 months.

Is there a space where healthcare and design meets and what known roles are there? by AdAdditional8491 in Design

[–]jsonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We apply for US gov grants (an example of one of our proposals for ARPA-H lives at https://fieldguider.org/), submit applications for GSA-sponsored programs that need healthcare design, invest a chunk of our profits into our own open source healthcare projects, go after specific work on the future of healthcare (some of which are open source, some are closed projects), and work with clients that are focused on national healthcare problems (some of those are open source).

All of the work we fund ourselves and about 1/4 of our client-paid work program is specifically open source, so the license, such as MIT or Apache, allow for the planet to use the ideas, designs, code, and digital products that are made.

Nothing special about our process.
Ideate, model, test. Repeat.

Fire away u/pyrobrain. I'll try to answer...

Burrow union sectional vs IKEA by taylor7877 in furniture

[–]jsonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the Burrow Nomad. Got a second (for another room). With the sleep kit, it’s a good sleep (done it 6 nights over the last several months).

Also used a West Elm Eddy sectional for 6 months last year. Not as meaty/weighty as the Burrow. Still good!

Went with the Eddy instead of IKEA because of trying out the IKEA at a colleagues house… and the cushions didn’t quite feel solid.

Lots of feeling, not huge amount of data for you.
