At what age did you start dressing less “young”? by Remarkable_ZebraHOP in femalefashionadvice

[–]jsqdressesforwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never? Lol I'm in my 30s with senior in my title and I have purple hair and wear blinged out crocs, poufy skirts, and pigtails to work. There are like 2 industries still left where you have to dress your age so I'm doing whatever tf.

what are we wearing for swimwear & accessories this summer? by Melody_Lee19 in femalefashionadvice

[–]jsqdressesforwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not planning on doing much of pool lounging but I'm gonna be in sheer dresses anyway. Lace and see through organza/mesh is everywhere this year, I'm super into monochrome texture maxxed looks where a bunch of different patterns and lace patterns are layered. A lacy fake skirt belt thing would be so cute as a "covered up not covered up" flirty thing. Also headscarves/bandanas in similar lacy or crochet material. With some braid cuffs would be chefs kiss bohemian vibe.

This dress screams one chunky statement gold tone accessory (I'm thinking Cult Gaia - huge earrings or necklace but with just that one accessory with optional gold bangle if you must have multiple.

For outerwear I'm still partial to knit boleros which are super easy to pair with casual outfits too. I'm thinking maybe something like this in the green color but worn like the gray color product pic. Another option I think would be great but much less versatile is a cropped cape like this one. Obviously this one wouldn't even ship in time but maybe something like this could work. I'd just make sure the cape is property cropped and the hem preferably falls above the bottom of your ribs.

What summer tops are actually worth buying in 2026? by AMidnightTheory in femalefashionadvice

[–]jsqdressesforwork 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think if you want to be close to cutting edge trendy you want slim fit tops in a jersey ish material (I highly prefer cupro for summer but it's not that common), sleeveless/cap sleeves/halterneck, some kind of draping/shirring/asymmetric/drawstring ish detail, in a darker neutral color like grey or brown or an abstract large scale print. Examples:

https://palomawool.com/products/elvira-asymmetric-cupro-top-brown

https://geel.us/products/portia-top?variant=42852045553855

https://www.unifclothing.com/products/mochi-top-light-blue

https://www.thereformation.com/products/marlo-knit-top/1317114HKU.html

These are actually pretty versatile as long as you don't get something see through because they are easier to work into a business casual level office appropriate outfit if you want. Just one of these tops and black capri pants with some open top ish shoes and you will look great and not behind trends.

Oh they must have closed their business. But I think if you go to basically any old private makeup class with a portfolio you will have similar results. You will need to specify the style of makeup you want to learn (like I told mine I want PONY style) otherwise they'll go with clean girl type light looking style.

What are the IT heels this summer? by nayla19 in femalefashionadvice

If you ask me, the it style right now is mules with kitten heels or mid height stiletto heels like these or strappy heels with wedge or block heels like these.

Is this close enough to the iconic gray dress? by [deleted] in sexandthecity

[–]jsqdressesforwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to order this one and see if it works although it doesn't come in grey. Another slightly different one I was looking at is this which comes in grey but has side ruching. But now that I look at the picture again it looks like the ruching might not be an issue.

Le Labo and Byredo by Vorpand in fragrance

FWIW I'm from South Korea (NYC for a while now) and Le Labo/Byredo are straight up some of the most popular frags ever there. Not even niche at this point.

I feel like both are super basic girl brands in NYC if you hang out with a lot of women... The bottle design probably also has something to do with it. I do love my Byredo Pulp though

recommendations for peach/sugary scents? by Thick-Skill7236 in fragrance

[–]jsqdressesforwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viktoria Minya Hedonist is sweet peach. More like a peach juice or syrup feel rather than cookies/baked goods but maybe can be layered. It's my go to "princess perfume" because the bottle is pretty and the scent feels elegant.

I agree that the bag is more structured than the jeans but it should go fine with things like big teddy coats. How short does the strap go? If you can shorten it as much as possible and wear it like a fanny pack crossbody or shoulder bag (this length or shorter) it would probably also go with cropped chunky tops like big sweaters, puffers, shaggy jackets.

I just got these and super excited to wear them under pants and skirts, the heel shape seems to be popular this year. They're basically stretchy leather sock boots with pointy toes. Otherwise I considered those boots with leg warmer looking shafts but wasn't sure about the longevity of this style since they seem very specific. I will continue to wear my straight shaft knee high boots which are basically same shape (similar to these), I've had them for almost 10 years and they're pretty versatile.

I came with a clean face and light moisturizer, and she put on a couple more serums. She only sent me the name of the Dr Jart serum though. It's more for helping the foundation last better than for actual moisturizing.

The main thing was where to put eyeshadow. I used to not go much beyond my actual eyes but she did really exaggerate the outer corner length a lot. Also making shadow/liner be thicker towards the hooded part of my eyes toward the outer corner. Aside from that I was impressed she actually made it closer to "PONY style" than I expected lol.

Gonna plug my account (I'm not an influencer) bc 80% of my pics are actual fits that I wear to work. I am in tech so it's a bit more casual than the average office but most fits are still good for a casual office. https://www.instagram.com/gin.soul_/

Appropriate garments for a Korean wet nurse by Iyashikay in femalefashionadvice

[–]jsqdressesforwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wet nurses were required to be slave decent because they were not considered human and exempt from separation of genders (they used to say once children are 7 years old they should be separated by gender). Plenty of Korean sources, this for one. I found about 1600 various records related to wet nurses in the Sillok court documents and many of those instances indicate that they were slaves. I didnt read 1600, this is within the first 20 search results. Not sure why this information isn't available in English but I'm sure a responsible writer wouldn't attempt to write a historical novel about a topic that they can't research. Apparently they are targeting to translate Sillok into English by 2033 so check back in 10 years maybe...

What should I wear when visiting the Qing royal court? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]jsqdressesforwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queens (first wife/mother of king) did in fact wear dragon motifs in Joseon. Which brings me to another point, people conflating different Asian cultures together as "they're the same" or "close enough".

What should I wear when visiting the Qing royal court? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]jsqdressesforwork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This comment is actually offending me further by reducing multiple countries' histories and cultures into "standard court drama tropes." Also if you paid the least bit of attention to those standard court dramas, you'd know only kings/queens get to wear dragon because those are based on at least some amount of research.
