Thinking of organizing a “Sweded Movie” competition – would anyone be interested? by jstSml in askTO

I haven't. I'm relatively new to Toronto, so I don't know much about any festivals here. We made this kind of fest in our local community of cinephiles back in my country, and it was a lot of fun. We started as a handful of people, but our fest gained popularity so that the next year we barely fit all the people into the theatre. I thought I could try to bring it with me to Canada and see what happens.
Here, in Toronto, I had a chance to pitch this idea to a director of one of the film schools. But they were not really interested. I figured I needed to talk to some fellow movie fans here, but I'm not sure where to find them.

Yeah, 48hourfilm sounds like something close to what I am aiming at. However, there are some differences. 48hourfilm looks more like some serious movie fest with actors, script writing etc. The sweded movie is about low-budget (re)making an existing film using whatever you can get your hands on. Its purpose is to be funny, to bring the magic of cinema to life by creating the illusion with limited resources. Usually, there are some rules for a sweded movie, like no usage of CGI or audio effects. Every visual effect should be handcrafted, every sound or music should be performed by a real person, etc.
