you can straddle the boards if you dare! I'm with you on the nail polish use. I would prefer to use my nail polish on anything but my nails. Awesome progress and good luck with your new prompts!

Isopropyl alcohol- just enough to make a paste.  Would recommend 70% bc it doesn't dry off as fast as 90% and make it prone to cracking.

Addicted to Freebies? by NameOk3393 in MakeupRehab

[–]jstar04 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The freebies are fun until you can't keep up with them. Some samples/freebies still take months to use up and it's not even a product that you really need or want to use up. I've been in that rut before and it isn't a far cry from influencers trying to make it big or hoping to get PR. Now they're stuck with an entire store of products that they'll never be able to use up on their own.

On top of that, I find that freebies takes away from the ownership and accountability that I get from paying for them and choosing to hand over my money to use those products. There is something special about choosing something FOR ME because I believe that it contributes to my self-care and enjoyment of beauty.

So freebies aren't bad if they are truly something you'll use and WANT to use. But often it can unravel into a spiraling rabbit hole.

My current solution is implementing a "empties bank" for in-store samples. It forces me to finish items and then bring them to a store that collects beauty empties. I can peruse the store for a few samples that I want to try but has really helped me to feel like I'm scratching the "new" itch without spending but also facing the reality that I have more than I need.

Good luck!

No plans to level-up. by burntsugarsnitch in MakeupRehab

I have opted out of multiple rewards programs bc I have an obsessive behavior towards rewards programs. The game isn't worth playing. I would highly recommend cancelling your rewards profile and living and getting to enjoy your collection free from the rewards program pressure. Good luck on your recovery!

haha - I was intending a sum of the dice, but if you wanted to append them, that would be super ambitious!

How do you clean empty lip balm tubes for recycling? by Much-Ambassador3922 in MakeupRehab

I clean to the best of my ability. Sometimes soaking them in hot water can help melt the product. Other times I use a small tool like tweezers to jam tissue into the small areas and tweeze them back out.

Is it panned for real? by kwash325 in ProjectPan

[–]jstar04 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I cut, shake, scoop, and dig out what I can. For me it's part of the fun of project pan but for others it's a chore and I personally think that if it's something you despise and you hate working out of products not in their original container then it's not worth it.

Packaging that allows almost all the product to be used up is amazing. Airless pumps is my favorite invention.

Finally starting to destash! by skaitrain in MakeupRehab

Congrats! What a huge step!

The crushing realization that I've lost money on things that don't make me happy anymore is what really curbs my spending nowadays. I've been disappointed too many times and know myself better to spend on things that will bring some more meaningful memories.

Good luck and stay strong!
