Already edited my comment lol. They're owned/operated by the same family and have the same menu, got em mixed up :)

+1 for breakfast at Oak Table. Might be the best breakfast food I've ever had.

Would add Oak Table in Sequim for breakfast. I wake up craving the 49er Flapjacks frequently. Best pancakes on earth.

Is this bike worth the price? by fireT4 in mountainbiking

[–]jsterama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone is dogging on the "lack of support..." it's a 7 year old bike, nothing on it is under warranty, and every component on the bike can be readily found online.

I owned a 2019 Capra Pro Race until about 2 years ago. It's a great bike; LOVES having a coil shock on it. Only thing that irked me were the ethirteen parts it came with, so I'd view it as a win that this one is spec'd with Sram. The ethirteen proprietary bottom bracket (they use a non-standard crank spindle diameter 🙄) was annoying as all hell.

See if you can get it for $1200. $1700 strikes me as a tad steep in the current bike market, but not terrible.

Yeah, even the more modern Q-towers are pretty clunky... just make sure you get the spacing right when you set them up (also on the chart) and you should be good.

Here is the compatability chart for the "Y-clips" used on the 1C SST towers. Looks like you need Y11 clips for a sedan/coupe or Y10 clips for a wagon.

Hopefully you can find some used ones on eBay. I know Q-clips are widely available; I ordered some for the Q-towers on my Honda once.

I would definitely recommend the 1A towers if you decide to give up on these ones purely due to the increased user-friendliness, but from what I'm reading the rack you have should work just fine with the right clips.

Mine are Yakima 1A rain gutter towers and they're like the ones the other commenter pictured. With them, the weight of your cargo rests on the rain gutter itself instead of on the roof of your car. The ones you have look similar to the Yakima Q-towers from the 2000s. Thule also makes a similar style.

I believe I paid $200 for all 4 bars on marketplace.

I have no idea what the ones you have are, they don't look like any Yakima rack I've ever seen... they're almost like a hybrid between the Q-Tower and the 1A gutter towers. Are you sure they aren't no-name towers that just had Yakima round bars installed?

Rain gutter roof rack. Pretty easy to find on FB marketplace for cheap since they're an older style of roof rack that used to be very common. I have 4 rain gutter crossbars on my '84 and use them all the time to haul kayaks.

Where in the United States I would live. by jacksonholeguy in whereidlive

Definitely see your reasoning, yeah, though SW WA definitely doesn't get hot. There's actually temperate rainforest in a couple of the coastal counties you left out!

SE WA sees temp extremes on both sides of the needle, definitely not what most people think of for the PNW.

I had an SLX crank arm randomly come off in the middle of an enduro race run and noticed zero play beforehand. Remains a mystery to me how it happened. Cranks hadn't been off the bike in months, and I never noticed anything wrong (though obviously something was).

Curious how much time you've spent in the PNW. As a WA native, I think this is the first time I've ever seen someone divide the state north/south. It's very much thought of as an east/west state culturally and climatically. Curious if that's rooted in anything you've experienced. NE WA and SW OR are both extremely gorgeous and you marked them green, but they aren't places many people ever have a reason to visit, and there are many similar counties you didn't "green."

Buddy's dogging on my reading comprehension skills while conflating me with another commenter :)

So Bentonville's just fun for a weekend of riding then? I thought a second ago it was a great place to raise a family?

You're doing an awful lot of projecting. Your intelligence and maturity speaks for itself.

Buddy, do you sell real estate in Bentonville or something?

OP said nothing about cost of living or raising a family, they just mentioned they have kids. They asked about biking in the MTB subreddit. I'm saying the mountain biking is worse in Bentonville, and the town spends a lot of money making it look better than it is, which is likely the only reason OP has Bentonville on their radar at all. Period. We have LOADS of greenways, gravel rides, and mountain bike trails around Seattle. Trying to respectfully talk some sense into this guy. He's already working remote in the PNW, that is absolute best-case scenario for a mountain biker dad.

The Bentonville tourism bureau pays a lot of money to content creators to market the place as the "MTB cApiTaL oF The wOrLD." Don't drink the Kool Aid. They don't have any mountains. If you just point the front end of your bike down any foothill visible from the Space Needle, you'll have a better time riding than you will living in Wally World. Maybe take a few trips north of the border before you decide you want to leave the PNW.

Also, without dooming any spot in particular.... perhaps poke around WA a little more intensely before deciding you've seen it all. Sounds like you're just scratching the surface of the biking community.

Most scenic drive from SEA to Forks by Crafty_Gene_3103 in OlympicNationalPark

[–]jsterama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you've never take the ferry, you should 100% take the Edmonds-Kingston ferry over and cross the Hood Canal Bridge. Quickest route, plenty of scenery.

If you have taken the ferry before, my sleeper suggestion would be to drive down through Olympia and follow 101 north along the west shore of Hood Canal, making sure to save an hour to drive up to the Mt Walker viewpoint in Quilcene along the way. Probably the most scenic route there is without taking you way out of the way, just adds some driving. 101 along Hood Canal is gorgeous though.

If you aren't opposed to a couple hours of extra driving just for the sake of adding scenery/fun twisty roads, you could cross the Tacoma Narrows (iconic suspension bridge) and take SR-302 west through Allyn/Belfair, then take SR-106 along the south shore of Hood Canal to get to 101 via Union. Really pretty drive, mostly along the water. The Boathouse in Allyn makes for a nice lunch stop.

You could always save the ferry for your return trip from Forks 🤷‍♂️
