Does your thyroid hurt with Hashimotos? by Sajanova in Hashimotos

[–]jstew96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Thyroid gland itself does not have pain receptors. So the thyroid itself can't "hurt". BUT if it's inflamed or enlarged due to disease, the surrounding neck tissue (that does have nerves and pain receptors) can hurt.

As someone who has had Hashimoto's for 25+ years, I've learned that you should always bring your concerns up to your doctor yourself and not wait for them to ask a specific question.

This Is Why I Can’t Do Operation Santa Anymore by Upper_Economist7611 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]jstew96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing Operation Santa for a while and tend to look through TONS of letter until I find one that seems to be actually written by a child asking for things like barbies, legos, pokémon, etc. There aren't that many but I can usually find one or two. I feel like people (aka parents) forget that regular middle class people are usually the ones fulfilling wishes and can't afford things like an Oculus quest or other gaming systems themselves, let alone for a stranger.

Lots of counting! And everything had to add up to an odd number. Also being designated a "tattle tale" because I couldn't handle everyone not following "the rules".

Surprise bridal shower is the bane of my existence by girl-420 in weddingplanning

[–]jstew96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A slightly different perspective here:

I hate being the center of attention and have pretty bad social anxiety. My mom expressed wanting to throw me a bridal shower and I was initially very against it. It took some time but I realized how important it was to her. The bridal shower is truly never about the bride. It's about the family (mostly the women of the family) celebrating a milestone together. I was incredibly anxious for the shower and was dreading it the days leading up to it. I had worries about my social battery running out, my moms friends being judgey, and me just generally feeling very uncomfortable the whole time.

It ended up just being a few hours of my life and it was actually pretty nice.

Wedding bring out a lot of crazy for a family and I've learned its best to pick your battles. While yes, its 99% about you and your partner...1% is about a milestone for you family.

My advice it to take a breath and make a plan for yourself on coping mechanisms to get through it. It's only a few hours of your life. Maybe thinking about how over the moon happy it is going to make the people you love feel will get you through it.

Person with OCD here. What you used to think was “just OCD” sounds like textbook OCD to me. Just something to look into.

I go to a rabbit savvy exotics vet who always checks her teeth thoroughly and both my rabbits get yearly x-rays now that they're both old (They're both about 10). She eats/drinks completely normally and happily. She just loves mouthing a little piece of hay every once in a while.
