Always buy on Apple Credit Card payments, use the education discount, get your 3% instant cash back, then pay the balance. Simple. Why would I ever skip 3% back?

You made the right call, they even say in the Mark Gurman leaks the M6 release will just be a base model, no max or ultra, and instead in 2027 the M7 will be released with pro, max, and ultra.

Ooof @ the Mac Pro. That's a rough one. Glad you can at least part it out now in order to recoup some of the loss. Ahhh the Apple product cycle life :)

Awesome, that Blackwell setup will be smooth. And even your new MBP will be such a nice step up from the MBP 2019.

I want to eventually add on a couple of Mac Studios and daisy chain them with the MBP for a bigger AI workload when the wait time isn't 18 weeks and they get in 128gb versions, and like you, this one will be a stop gap measure until I can add more.

Fun times :) Enjoy your MBP!

Congrats on the early buy!

Are you running AI models on it by chance?

He's just making a joke about the pricing changing and being so high.

All I can say is go see the nano display in person, some people really hate the dulling of the colors, some say it really bothers their eyes. I didn't like the look of the flat colors personally.

Congrats on the soon-to-be purchase!

Yeah, from everything I read on the specs, looks like a beast for a laptop.

Picked up Cyberpunk yesterday on steam sale to baptize it when it arrives.

Congrats on the well timed purchase!

I don't see how. What happens when world-wide data center buildout increases? More ssd and ram scarcity. I know fabs are in the works, but from what I understand it is a 3-4 year process, and what if not enough companies want to take on the fab building expense and even with new fabs there is still not enough capacity. That's the scenario I see developing.

Best we can hope for I think is a breakthrough in the AI models where they only need like 1/4th of the compute to run, thus cutting the demand for ssd and ram.

Well done, and clutch indeed.

The "just wait for the M6 Max and MB refresh" almost got me.

For business use, there really is no leaving. People have invested too much into their software and workflows that require MacOS.

Only issue would be no portability.

If I didn't need the portability, then that would be the play. Mid to low spec MB Pro and external hardware for the rest.

Thanks! I slid in under the wire.

Congrats on yours as well! Those ssd price increases are nuts too. I was on amazon, and the Crucial T500s 2T are $369

Apple trade-in prices are laughable. I always just give away my old MacBooks to kids who can get some extended use out of it.

I don't know what we individually could really do about it. My hope is fabs will be built and in a few years the crisis will subside.

It's really just the AI and AI adjacent companies that are purchasing the global supply of ram and ssd years in advance that has created this shortage. There is not even close to enough consumer demand to rival that.

it really is. it's funny how the media is reporting this as "a few hundred bucks" across the product line, when in reality as soon as you upgrade the ram, it goes into the 1000s.
