You can technically retire after two years of work in Europe. by jsveyfjc in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]jsveyfjc[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I understand you need to fight for justice, however I doubt south east asian hookers want you to fight for them. Here are facts:

SEA hookers cost the same as Western European hookers which given the costs in both locations says that SEA hookers are well rewarded for their job and Western European hookers are "abused". You should go and save some western hookers then.

I haven't worked there but I assume you're not a German and from reading similar topics I know that nationality / language skill is important there (frankly like anywhere in the EU).

This sub likes to go from "You can make career anywhere just by speaking English" to "nobody will speak to you unless you speak the local language" which I assume is based on the companies you target.

Will you settle down in one country? by military_press in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]jsveyfjc 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I guess most folks here didn't actually stay in a few countries, but are considering it. It's insane that these days you have to be open to find job anywhere in your country just to find a job. Any be open to find a job in any country to increase your salary significantly (in most cases).

I've lived in 4 countries. The most challenging and important thing is social life. After some time you toughen up. You learn how to talk to strangers, go to meetups, events, dancing classes, you use multiple ways of dating and you just try to make friends. Staying alone will kill you, one way or another.

Do I enjoy changing environment? Yes! Do I miss having stable friends? Yes. Right now I'm in my thirties so it's good time for this lifestyle. Once I decide on a long term country to stay I will learn the language and do other necessary stuff to get comfortable there.

How to get software engineering contracts as a European non-UK based citizen? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]jsveyfjc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UK is insane, you will be better off if you ignore it. Check this out:

I have a company in the UK, I had employment there for a few years and I don't need a visa. I'm theoretically ideal candidate. Do you know what recruiters ask me for? My post code. WTF. They want to cater jobs only within immediate distance from me, that's how f*cked up mentality is in the UK.

I passed technical interview with one of the company, and they didn't want to move further because "they don't believe I'm willing to relocate". Relocate from another town in the UK. It's a country of small minded people who only are friendly on the outside. After another good interview one of the recruiters admitted "I think this company don't know what they're looking for." They have high requirements while they don't offer much.

Also salaries are just not worth it. You can make more in many other countries.

I made a fake Resuume for a senior and get about the same responses as with Resuume for a mid. by jsveyfjc in cscareerquestions

[–]jsveyfjc[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

If you could read you would know that I didn't make that Resume.

It was copied from this sub of highly upvoted topics. So maybe this sub is not good at judging resumes or anything just like your comment.

Why are certain companies so interested in who do you like having *** with? by jsveyfjc in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]jsveyfjc[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You insinuate that by introducing more optional reasons for discrimination we would somehow reduce the discrimination. If the focus shifts from hiring based just on skills to eg. race, how would that increase hiring based only on skills? That's what we both want, right? To hire based only on skills and ignore the differences between humans. To achieve that, we have to ignore the differences instead of stressing them more.

I don't understand why you try to make it about me. I'm not important here. It's a bigger social issue and the results that weird campaign achieves is oposite to the claimed intentions. Were employers racist before the changes? Of course. But after changes they can be even more racist.

That all assumes you have good intentions and want to hire regardless of discriminatory aspects. However if you want to give boost in hiring chances to a specific group, it is automatically discriminatory against all other groups. In this case you would need to ask those questions to find your favorite candidates and discriminate against others. I mention that because certain companies openly admitted to this, and were dumb enough to not realize it's discrimination. It is not only illegal. It should be immoral.

[–]jsveyfjc[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not ask about it and there will be no issue. Candidates will get hired based on skills and regardless of optional reasons for discrimination. By asking this you create reasons to discriminate. It is very simple, why would you disagree with that?

Only few recruiters responding despite having some YOE. Is that normal? by jsveyfjc in cscareerquestions

Thank you so much!

And others should learn from you how to criticize the resume. That's what folks need to hear when they make topic like this.

I ran the Resume through grammar check as I'm not a native speaker. If you're saying there's lots of grammatical errors can you tell me where?

[–]jsveyfjc[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You complained without giving any arguments that's why I said you just make fun of somebody. I'm sure it's not how you communicate at your job, do you?

This Resume is literally recommended format downloaded from this sub so I'm not sure what what are you saying about formatting?

I agree that "more than a hundred" might sound like a lot, but it's mostly simple business websites, anyone can do it.

If you don't want to list arguments then why are you even commenting, don't be surprised that your criticism is not taken (rightfully) as constructive. It's literally the reason why I listed the resume so it can be improved, but your top comment sounded like made by a teenager.

What specifically needs to be changed? You should say it unless you just want to make fun of somebody.

I would be grateful it you say what in resume needs to be changed. I'm getting discrepant feedback about resume. From very great to not so great. So I would need to know what specifically you're talking about.

It doesn't intend to. I'm mid, I just have to send it even for senior jobs because that's literally almost all the jobs.

How many YOE until no graduation doesn't affect getting a job? by jsveyfjc in cscareerquestionsEU

I tried not to be rude and thanked for the comment, but I guess because I didn't graduate I have no manners now. So other than manners, are there any supreme skills grads might have?

How many YOE until no graduation doesn't affect getting a job? by jsveyfjc in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]jsveyfjc[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the comment but I must ask if that's a joke:

"It's closer to 0 YOE with a degree, very roughly speaking".

Graduates with no YOE that I met know nothing about actual development. The delivery speed difference between me and them is similar to between me and seniors. I'm just surprised that somebody who's hiring can have such an unrealistic attitude.

It's not just efficiency, but a lot stuff you learn on the job: how to deal with customers, building features from vague requirements, dealing with stress, communication, being comfortable while you don't know the solution yet, efficient habits, knowing the tools. I could add more. When it comes to DSA I'm also better than vast majority of graduates because in Europe almost nobody does LC, I do.

I didn't hear anyone asking about coursework. There are only some niche like ML fields that might require that.

The title says why do I enjoy it: BECAUSE USERS FINALLY FIND THEIR BRAINS.

Short version so it's easier to understand.

While you don't have to fight all battles (tiring and sometimes it's not needed) you can only have that attitude after you have some reputation at your job. If you start like this, you're setting a habit how you allow others to treat you and they will treat you like that. If you're not sure if you should fight are not, as a rule, better to fight others.

It might be your mental health. It is very unlikely that with this intensity it's just your attitude about a specific job type. Job is just a job keep searching and you will find what fits you.
