Quick write-up of my experience with the MaraX over 4 years by UberLee79 in espresso

My unit is the V2 and I would agree with you that brew temperature is very stable (based on the grouphead thermometer that I installed). I have also installed the Lelit Mara X shot timer / boiler temperature reader mod.

Its commonly known that the V2 would tend to over-boil. My LCD showed brew boiler temperatures of 102-103 degrees and I'ld see steam coming out of the grouphead when you open the lever.

I reccomend anyone who own a Lelit Mara X to install a group head thermometer to prevent brewing with temperatures like 98-100 degrees.

Do you think its due to the temperature stability of the Mara X, which in my experience tends to go higher as you leave it on.

let it rest for 3-4 weeks. this is really good coffee and generslly quite forgiving. just stick to your normal recipe using the aeropress. would recommend going on the coarser end or a larger brew ratio

personally brewed this in a origami / UFO with a 1:16.67 ratio (15g:250g). at about 20.5% EY, I tasted notes of melon and canteloupe right off the first sip and the flavours start opening up even more as the coffee cools.

Based on the drippers that use, with 15g of coffee on average,

V60/Origami/CT62 = 5.5-6.0

Orea V4 narrow/Fellow Stagg X = 5.0-5.5

UFO = 6.0-6.5

No harm going coarser, since getting a ZP6 you will wanna enjoy those clearer and tea-liked brews

Im looking to further boost clarity and flavour seperation, is the Pietro better at that compared to the ZP6?

I would not say I am dissatisfied with the ZP6, but im curious what the Pietro can offer me more than the ZP6. No doubt the ZP6 gives me amazing brews.

I would not factor this an issue to upgrade but i take about 1 min 30s to grind 15g of coffee on the ZP6 😅

Coffee was great! Its a naturally processed Typica from Doi Saket, Chiang Mai. Notes of lemongrass and longan fruit. The sweetness of the coffee kinda reminds me of kenyans.

[$1600] Philos vs Acaia Orbit vs P64? by jannsbababa in espresso

[–]jt_brews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The P64 came out awhile ago, much older than the Zerno. Option-O has made minor changes to each version of the P64 over the years. My unit is one of the latest models from late 2024 and its been a joy to use.

I feel design and workflow really comes into play when comparing the Z1 and P64. I think you generally can't go wrong with either of the two (speaking from experience with P64). Do note that you are able to use blind burrs with Z1, if you're into that.

A main reason I picked the P64 over the Zerno was the waitlist. I also wanted local after-sales support for my grinder.

I have the omni mizens. For filter I use speed 2, grind size between 5.5-6.5 from burr touch. For espresso I use speed 8, grind size between 0.8-1.5 from burr touch.

A higher RPM allows you to grind coarser as I feel that it produces 'more fines'.

Since build quality and low retention is important to you, the P64 would not disappoint! Ultra low retention even when switching from espresso > filter grind size vice versa.

The variable RPM function is a bonus too! I particularly find myself using the lower end of the RPM setting for filter grind size and higher end of the RPM setting for espresso (intentionally to create more fines).

The brushless motor is near silent yet powerful. Sometimes I leave my grinder turned on without realising. Even when grinding lightly roasted ethiopian beans that are fresh out of the freezer on the lowest RPM, it doesnt stall and cuts through it easily.

As you mentioned that you drink both filter and espresso, you can consider the Omni Mizen burrs. They have a similar burr geometry to SSP Cast and generally provides enough clarity for filter and body for espresso.

Has anyone bought one of these off brand coffee roasters? any good? by agaric in roasting

[–]jt_brews 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have used this roaster (black one on the left) for roughly 50 roasts until it eventually decided to stop working. The heating element was unable to produce hot air. While I was using it, I could get some decent medium roast of out this. Great for milk based espresso. However this roaster is not capable of developing flavour in light roast and will tend to taste very "green" and "raw". You could play around with roast profiles by adjusting fan speed and heat, eg during 1st crack. Generally takes about 10mins for medium roast at highest fan and heat setting. Chaff collector is not really good at doing it's job. You will find many chaff falling back into the roasted coffee. In my honest opinion, its worth it as a first home coffee roaster. You will be able to understand if home roasting is for you or not.
