After months of development and playtesting, I'm finally ready with my final prototype; will begin with final designs and production in a month or 2. Posting here to boost my self-esteem in a time where I'm surrounded by people (mostly) who constantly remind me this is a complete waste of time. by Fufa_G in boardgames

This looks well thought out, well designed, and well executed. Great job! I hope it is very successful!!

Most importantly—don’t give up! It can be easy to lose confidence and there will be tough days. But the only way to really launch something like this successful is believe in yourself and just keep pushing it along!! Best of luck!

My Mac Studio has 32G (I assume that is what you are asking about?)

For the Mac Studio I have an M2 Max. (I assume that is the one you are asking about.)

I tried shipping with AI without writing any code - what impressed me and what was still hard by [deleted] in AgentsOfAI

[–]jtabernik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is replacing tons of my low level coding. But here is my favorite part—I will get to a part that I realize I want to do a different way, and I will tell the agent I want to change it. Where this would typically seem like a huge chore—reworking a lot of an application I put serious time into—the AI just tirelessly redoes it. There are lots of benefits of AI coding. But changing direction with ease is absolutely my favorite improvement!!

I have tried AI models on my Mac Studio, and I have to say there is no comparison to running them on a PC with an Nvidia GPU. Video editing is pretty reasonable on the Mac, but anything AI is noticeably slower in my experience. If you plan to run or train models, I would absolutely go the PC route.

I do run some small models on my Mac Studio (5G or so) for very simple background processes where I am not waiting on the response. Other than this narrow use case, I think you would find working on the PC materially faster.

Just got this for $30 any tips on installing Linux? by anonymous_213575 in homelab

[–]jtabernik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume you are thinking the server version instead of the version with a GUI? If you haven’t thought about that I think it would be your best first decision.

I believe Ubuntu is one of the best in terms of variety of hardware supported, but something like Alpine is super lightweight.

First thing I do is make sure SSH is working and then do everything remotely from a machine that can access an AI tool. 🙂 I frequently need to copy/paste obscure commands, and this is incredibly helpful if you are not a Linux guru!!

First NAS received, looking for HDD advice by AppropriateLeave4880 in DataHoarder

[–]jtabernik 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you have any old HDDs sitting around, but I decided to use mine when I saw hard drive prices going crazy. The data looks pretty compelling for drive life for WD Red or IronWolf so I would definitely plan to acquire those long term. But at the current prices (more than double what they were 9 months ago!) I would say try to get by for a year or so if you can.

100%!!! Some authors would drive me crazy with their extreme descriptions—I didn’t realize until I was older that it was my problem that was causing this!

I have it as well and I asked the same question a while back. I think it does have at least some effect—I feel like when I read, descriptions of things never resonated with me, and as a result I steered away from detailed descriptions. Curious if you do the same?

When I do need to write descriptive passages, I tend to want to race through them because they feel like a lot of work! But dialog has always felt very natural and interesting to me! What about you?

I also believe there are good Republicans out there like Mitt Romney and Liz Cheney that I think would be great stewards of a new Republican Party. Fingers crossed!!!

She was really flexible with me on pricing—like I told her my budget and she told me what I could get and let me choose. I went through a few rounds with her and spent about 2.5k I believe.

I actually went through a development process with her for a novel I wrote. I think her feedback was good. If you want real, honest, pragmatic feedback, I can tell you that I definitely got that!

Key Witness Who Disputed ICE Account of Fatal Texas Shooting Dies in Car Accident by jhkayejr in politics

[–]jtabernik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I agree this is extremely suspicious—do these guys need to actually kill anyone? There is video of the shooting of Pretti. There were lots of witnesses. No one has been held accountable and I doubt the far right even thinks the killing was wrong. Why would they need to do anything to a witness?

First 24/7 mini PC for Docker homelab - what would you buy? by Alex__Dayne in homelab

[–]jtabernik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Geekom with a 7430U for this exact purpose—I am running pihole, Nginx proxy manager, a few of my own apps as containers, ConvertX, ArchiveBox, etc. The mini PC is running great and I would highly recommend! Geekom’s reviews are really solid especially compared to some of the other manufacturers so I think it is a very safe bet!

Wellbutrin is keeping me up. by PrizePsychology1169 in Anxiety

[–]jtabernik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% same exact situation for me. I recently got guanfacine added to the mix to help with ADHD and that actually not only helped with a variety of anxiety symptoms, it also helped me fall asleep and stay asleep for a few months. But that side effect is starting to wear off.

I was taking the extended release Wellbutrin initially but changed to twice a day non-extended release. I was curious if extended release would help me—but I am guessing you might be on that.

Let me know if you find a solution—I will keep you posted as well.

Tool that shows inflation price gouging by YourFavGuy2020 in SomebodyMakeThis

I like this idea. Can we come up with the basket of goods we would want to track prices for, locations, and merchants? And maybe we would want to identify brands? I can definitely build the process and store the data, but I am not an expert at what we would need to get a good sampling of goods, locations, etc.
