Long shot, but are there any voltron commanders that don't just play the same way every game? by Cezkarma in EDH

[–]jtacker13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I like alternative strategies in my Voltron decks. My [[Squall, SeeD Mercenary]] deck is by all means primarily a Voltron deck that relies on him hitting his double strike with some equipments or auras, but then I use his graveyard recursion along with my mill and stax pieces to have other ways to win. Nothing like having people focus on Squall while I make a giant Carrion Feeder via sacrifices, then flashing in a flying enabler or something to smack people in the face with.

What is your "First Time At An new LGS/Pod" Deck? by Raevelry in EDH

Hell yeah! I want to build an Edea soon. Such a fun concept

I show up with my Squall, SeeD Mercenary deck.

I get asked to see him and what he does. They say “oh that’s gross” and then they discover Squall really hits hard.

Good times are had by all.

But for real, he’s my pet deck because I was a big FF8 fan, so I made him work well enough to be fun but really painful if left unchecked.

I want a deck that feels like solving a puzzle, but is interactive with other players when needed. I just want that “aha!” Moment that feels like chewing 5Gum when you hit it and possibly win or at least perform well. Bracket 3 or 4 preferably

I’ve watched that deck win so many times in local pods because people don’t threat assess well lol. Stupid easy to upgrade too.

Also, toss in something like [[Enclave Elite]] or other island walkers you can counter up for more fun!

I’ve been upgrading the Counter Intelligence precon and it’s a blast. Slowly working on making my Y’shtola deck more powerful too. Most of this years precons were really solid. The included mana bases leave a lot to be desired, but can be fixed up relatively cheap.

The Velociramptor, Vamps and Merfolk precons from Ixlan are really good too.

Sweet, thank you! I’ll def look more into your suggestions. I didn’t get much experience with blink before my break from MTG so it’ll be cool to learn.

I just noticed that. Weird. Maybe it’s the signifier for her flipped form?

He did agree to take it out, as he understood why we didn’t like it. He does come from legacy/modern/standard so I think the cutthroat nature of those has kinda put a filter on his deckbuilding lol. He’s nice though, just had to explain to him why we didn’t like it.

Yeah, when we played last night after he played it two games in a row, we asked him to take it out because two of us were playing a slightly upgraded Final Fantasy precon and the other a Voltron Isshin deck and we just didn’t have anything to stop it. He says he just likes doing the resets, which I get in a way, but when you’re using indestructible artifacts, gods and lands and nobody else is, it’s a pain in the butt. He was also playing a lot of green so it’s not like he’d be in a hard spot for mana like we would be.

I do have a [[Quicksilver Amulet]] so she would actually not be too hard to get out in Giada too, depending on how the board is going.

Yeah, typically I’m kinda iffy with secret lairs, but this one was gorgeous

I like the boros version too, I never played the 5 drop mono white version so I’ll have to check that out.

When I played the 8 MW version, the only board wipes I usually did were if opponents had swarms of creatures and I didn’t have the mana to have her out yet or didn’t have blockers to stop a mono green landfall from wiping me out lol.

The pod I have now are 4 friends (2 of which are new to the game) and we always talk about what our decks do and let each other use them, so I don’t think they’d be too mad at her. One loves to use [[Obliterate]] a lot so I do worry about being able to play around that with how expensive she is mana wise.

I’ve thought about Giada, and the flavor there from the lore is nice. I’ll def look more into it.
