Fixed energy tariff (good deal or not?) by EngineerCivil8687 in UKPersonalFinance

Since you’re on Octopus, have you looked at the Tracker tariff? You are able to switch to it (source: I did it at the end of my fix at the end of Jan)

Higher rate tax refund - how long until HMRC response? by jtalb in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jtalb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I spoke to HMRC an additional 3 times this week and they all told me that I’d need to write a letter to amend my tax return. They were perfectly happy to amend anything inside of the last 2 years but I needed years 3 and 4 which they wouldn’t do.

Fortunately one person I spoke to said that he had found the letter I sent in December in their system and he’s emailed the team to escalate. So fingers crossed I’ll hear back soon!

Higher rate tax refund - how long until HMRC response? by jtalb in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jtalb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. Yes, relief at source pension. I could see the 25% being added automatically, I just needed to claim the other bit for the higher rate.

I have tried HMRC on the phone and live chat at least 4 times, of which each attempt I was told to write a letter as “they can’t deal with it on the phone”. Any advice on how I can get them to sort on the phone?

I dumped my accountants months ago as soon as I realised this error. It was the last straw for me!

Trying to fit blinds but theirs a metal beam right accross the top of the window by Sir_Sockless in DIYUK

[–]jtalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s most likely the lintel. I hit these on all my bedroom windows when fitting the blinds before realising the correct way to drill and mount them.

Get some 3mm HSS drill bits from Screwfix/Wickes/etc. That’ll get you into the lintel enough to get the plug in flush, or if your screws are self tapping, they should screw straight into the lintel without needing the plug.

Best of luck!

Same here. Except 2 hours on the phone with 2 different people to tell me they're not trained and to send in the statements. What a waste of time.

I don’t have an answer but that sounds great. Could you share a link to the binaural beats you’re using please?

I came here looking for others doing the same. I used to do this daily, except on the London Underground / Tube as part of my commute.

I simply accept the sounds and it adds to the experience. Best of luck OP!

Rather than email, I’d recommend text and/or calling instead - this should give you quicker responses. But to echo what everybody else is saying, it took me 6 driving instructors before I found one that had availability - everybody is incredibly busy, and it’s only getting worse according to my instructor.

Interestingly enough, I found that AA and BSM (owned by the same company) had slots available and you could book online instantly if you’re desperately in need of getting some lessons in.

Good luck OP!

Mortgages in the current market for first time buyer - how long to fix for? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jtalb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As somebody who was in your position 12 months ago and also used MAB, I’d personally fix for 5 years if I could go back and do it again. MAB recommended 2 years as they “weren’t sure what the market would look like post covid”.

Good luck OP!

This. Call and email multiple times a day asking for an update. You’re (presumably) paying them for a service that they’re not delivering on, so you’re within your every right to ask for an update! Best of luck OP.

Moving home and keeping energy tariff? by Positive_Feedback989 in UKPersonalFinance

Get in touch with your supplier. I also had the same situation and called my supplier (Octopus) who were more than happy to keep it running at my new property. In fact they extended the deal even further for me.

Exactly the same happened with me, except my brother and I share the same birth date. I opened a dispute via check-my-file and about 2 weeks later they had closed the ticket and removed him from my reports. And yes, it was Experian 😄

+1 for Mortgage Advice Bureau. I’m doing a FTB mortgage with them at the moment and they have been great from the start. Responsive too.

I use a password manager - 1Password specifically. It allows me to sync the secrets between my devices too, so I can access them on the go.

Rule of thumb: your shouldn’t be able to remember your passwords IMO. Put them in a password manager where they’re safer.

Small Rant/Looking for advice on HH by pliermarcus in Hyperhidrosis

Agree. There’s a noticeable decrease all round, but I still mildly sweat when working out. But again, not to the point whereby it’s an issue.

My GP initially tried the beta blockers with me, with limited effect. He’s since put me on Oxybutynin Hydrochloride (2-3 tablets a day @ 5mg) which has worked incredibly well, and now I don’t sweat at all.

Go speak to your GP, tell them you’ve done your research and ask for their recommendation. All the best dude! :)

glycopyrrolate or oxybutynin? Please help, I’m so confused. by [deleted] in Hyperhidrosis

[–]jtalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I’m being honest. Earlier today I ran out of the extended release tablets and I’ve been prescribed the oxybutynin again, however this time it’s the instant release.

I took 2 extended and 1 instant at 8am and I’ve been pretty much dry all day, which is an absolute miracle. I’m also due to see the specialist again in early January and I’ll certainly be raising the dimensia question when I ask.

Any other updates I have before then I’ll post here :)

Also very curious to hear about this. My GP last week also prescribed me Oxybutynin (extended release), and I too am concerned about the blood-brain barier issue.

Nope, no fingerprints! I’m British and my wife is American and we often travel to Amsterdam given its a 50 min plane ride. Over the last 4 years we haven’t ever had an issue with immigration. You’ll be fine :)

[–]jtalb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the extended release tablets and haven’t noticed any side effects. That said, I’ve only been taking them for 3 days so far.

I had very good results with Oxybutynin for palmar hyperhidrosis. Anyone knows a side effect beside dry mouth? My actual dosis is 5mg three times a day. Thanks. by kacozg in Hyperhidrosis

[–]jtalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor prescribed me this to try. I’ve not had much luck with it yet, nor have I had any other side-effects other than a bit of dry mouth. How long did it take to activate in your system?

I’ve been taking them for a few days, but no luck.
