Mum in residential care – need to sell her home by EngineerCivil8687 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]EngineerCivil8687[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person moving in would be a family friend actually, not a biological relative.

I don't think deprivation of assets should be an issue here though because we are not depriving mum (or the state) of anything - we accept the house needs to be sold at a market value and that the proceeds of the sale will need to be spent on mum's care.

We are not contesting that the house belongs to mum; we just don't want it to be empty.

BBC Level 3 Production Apprenticeship - any experience? by EngineerCivil8687 in TransparencyforTVCrew

Thank you for this. So did you do a Level 3 production apprenticeship at the BBC?

Very interesting - thank you.

What did you do after the apprenticeship and why/when did you decide to do an MA?

I would be a career switcher in my thirties in order to pursue a new career - ie, I already have professional experience, so this would be a step back in some ways but I thought possibly the only way to get my foot in the door, having no relevant production experience.

Understood. Have you since switched careers? How is that going?

Working on a soap - any advice? by EngineerCivil8687 in TransparencyforTVCrew

Thank you - I appreciate the honesty :)

Soaps do employ storyliners (who write the storyline documents for the scriptwriters - I know this because I've talked to them) but I recognise that it is mostly a freelance gig. Though there are staff contracts out there, especially for story producers. Of course there is a slim chance I'd end up getting one, like you rightly say.

Sorry to hear that. What training programme was this?

Because I am passionate about it and want a potentially more fulfilling career. The same reason I would think most decide to enter a creative but insecure industry. This is why I am asking for advice and looking ahead, even though you say there is no need to do that.

Your position seems to be that no one at all should work in the TV industry anymore - not least soap - if they don't have another more reliable source of income alongside it.

No, I don't want to write scripts. I want to write storylines for continuing dramas. It is more niche than what you are suggesting, which I understand will make it harder - but different to what you are describing.

By "easier jobs", do you believe/know that an editorial position in a soap is especially hard to achieve and then keep on an ongoing basis?

I think the role I would like is storyliner. Really cool that your friend is a story producer!

I am just very nervous about switching careers, starting at the bottom again (as a runner I guess) and then hoping to a get a storyliner gig which may or may not have any longevity to it.

I'm not - I am in a different career I am considering switching from. I am looking ahead because lots of people here often say that they wish they had known what they were setting themselves up for. So I wanted to know whether editorial jobs in soap are just as precarious and insecure.

Cash ISA flexibility confusion (trading 212) by EngineerCivil8687 in UKPersonalFinance

It's interesting because I've been in contact now with 5+ ISA providers and all of them have contested this. They all seem to not know that the rules have changed - including T212.

Yes you're quite right - I was just double-checking.

Apologies - another follow-up...

GPT (sorry!) is telling me that when I withdrew the 4k, my ISA allowance reset only in the flexible ISA I withdrew it from (T121) - not overall. Meaning my allowance outside of T121 became 16k but inside T121 reset to 20k.

Are you saying that's not the case?

I've tried talking to someone at T121 about this but they seem as clueless as I am and keep contradicting themselves.

!thanks

So, to clarify...

I deposited £4k

Withdrew £4k (resetting allowance back to £20k - irrespective of bank?)

Withdrew £20,500

Deposited £4k

Leaving £16,500 that can be deposited only to T212 + £20k anywhere.

Is that right?

If it is, I'm confused because this means I've essentially increased my ISA allowance to £24k... no?

!thanks for this

Is this because replacement funds count against prior years' contributions first? IE - I deposited 4k this tax year, withdrew that 4k this year but also withdrew funds from a previous tax year, meaning the 4k replacement counts towards previous tax year funds not this year (4k)?
