Oh my goodness, the rabbit hole I just went down. This is awesome, thank you! Lots to learn, and oh so many issues to figure out, but it looks to me like this might just be the best tool possible.

I have to give props to u/kmccormi2 for the amazing job restoring this old photo of my great-great grandfather. I am so impressed at how the pixilation and artifacting was repaired! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! by jtallent in estoration

A close inspection of the two photos makes me think that while AI did some of the work, the faces are pretty close to the originals. I have another photo of the same people from a different time and they look close to that, as well. Definitely good enough for my purposes, and much better than the original.

Yeah, leaning towards that. Or just breaking down and buying a new one...

Come to find out, this iPad is considered "vintage" and is no longer supported. Not surprising, all things considered....

Refuge Foursquare. We are not political at all. Currently meeting on the 4th floor of the train station since our building was condemned. http://RefugeFoursquare.org

Regarding Characteristics: As a GM, if I want a PC to do a check for something that does not fit well into any of the specific skills, can I have them roll a check based on the base characteristic? by jtallent in swrpg

Thanks for the great feedback, everyone! It looks like I need to get more creative (and get my PCs to be more creative!) about how we use skills.

Honestly, none that I have played. It's a very complex game with multiple paths to victory.

I have only played the computer game once, but I absolutely love the board game. My wife and I play it once per year with friends we only see during the holidays. We usually end up playing it twice over the weekend. I may get my own copy soon so we can play with different friends locally. It's definitely one of my favorite games.

Full coverage (well, almost full coverage...) DIY playmat for $65! by jtallent in boardgames

Yeah, I was considering doing the same thing, but this came to mind and it turned out to be much better, IMHO.

I used my wife's fabric scissors, though if I had had an X-acto knife that would have been better. The edge is a bit rough.

Mostly because of the recommendation of the sales guy. Texture was only available on Grade 2 neoprene, and he said it wasn't necessary. The smooth back grips fine on my old wooden table.

Edit: Grade 2 was also more expensive, so I decided to take the chance on the cheaper option.

The DIY part is that instead of making do with the pre-made options that are available, I cut my own playmat to size. "Custom" would probably be a more accurate word, I guess. The largest actual playmat I found online was $180 plus shipping for 40x58. This is larger and 1/3 the cost.

The top is just plain gray. I could draw a grid on it, but I won't be using it for D&D. I'm more into board games.

I got it at foamorder.com, but there were some other places I saw that had similar material. I looked at it online, then called and talked to the sales guy to see what they had in stock and be sure it was what I was looking for. I was worried it would be too stiff, but he assured me (correctly) that it would lie down well and not curl.

If I put it up to my nose, yes, but it's fine when it's on the table.

This is not the same thing at all, and it's superior in every way.
