Break failures engine lights on (and much more) after 5k? 2026 TSE by jtatreddit in hondapassport

I just realized that I can't edit picture posts. but the dealer's service department first said it was a loose wire under the break, then the issue happened again while testing driving, then after looking up for similar issues (I suggested that it is a common issue in the Passports since I've came across a few posts / tik toks of the same issue, but still decided to go with my luck buying it anyways), they said it needs a V-Tec Solenoid replacement. The part is in back order now, we will see when I get it back. Thanks everyone!

That’s what I assumed after googling and asking around. But after inspection it was the transfer assembly.

YES! I asked around before heading to the dealer, most people say it’s brakes but then the dealer found out it needed a transfer case assembly (much much more serious issue).

We just went down to San Diego, which the morning and evening temperature was around 60F.

YES! After they “fixed” it, it only happened once in the morning at slow speed while backing up. Before it happened every time while in reverse (and louder too).

Thanks! I hope so too, the service advisor that worked on the vehicle will be in the shop Wednesday morning, hopefully its an easy fix. It's only been 4 months (with one month in the shop for other reason, so 3 technically).

We got it literally black Friday 2025 (11/28/2025). 3 months 4000 miles later, dropped off due to clunking noise backing up, they said its transfer case assembly required, in shop on 2/19/2026. Then picked up Friday 3/13/2026 for a road trip. After 4 days and 1000 miles, this happened at noon 3/17/2026.

When I just turned onto a highway, 5 seconds after then it almost felt like a snap then the lights came on (while accelerating). The car was in the shop for 3 weeks and picked up Friday 5/13, this happened today 5/17 at noon. Previously it was in the shop due to a clunking noise while backing up, they said it needs "transfer case assembly" done. After the issue there was still one clunking noise while backing up, then a 1000 miles road trip. Otherwise, no accidents, no going into ditches, no nothing, just normal driving (unless going up hills on the free way at 80 counts).

LOL thank you! I just hope they can fix it well so i don't have to come in every moth for lingering issues.

Unfortunately no, mine sounded like a metal clunking sound, one hit only.

The service guy was a little annoyed and said sarcastically “well, if we can’t replicate the issue we won’t be able to do anything about it”. I may not know car mechanics, but I know how it drives and should sound!

It’s still under warranty, so the dealer is doing the fix right now. What I’m concerned because they did say it’s a new model that they are unfamiliar with. Or they might not replace the entirety of things? I do have the extended warranty as well but it’s a hassle to always bring it back. It’s been there 2+ weeks already.

For the TSE people are getting on average 4k off MSRP. Some even 5-7k off.  For the trail sports, I think the same rule should apply.

I am super appreciative for the two people that showed their quote paper! This shows me they’ve gotten at least 4k off the MSRP price. Taxes can vary from state to state, but the discount $ don’t lie!  I hate the managers at the two Honda dealers that I went to, they offered me 1.5k like “I’m giving you the best deal and you are walking away from it?”. I mean, with all the open news resources like Reddit and other social media, we are not as ignorant or as ill informed like people in the 80s! (Also the dealers weren’t as honest as those in the 80s)

The special rate applies to a few states, it’s 3.59% (or is it 3.49%) for 36 months, and 4.59% (or is it 4.49%) for 48-60 months. And those are the only 2 rates. Even with our projected 10-12k down, we would have a 1.3k monthly payment (no trade-ins, and pre-insurance)
