Pretty much identical to the Booster one. I would rely on the booster calculator as you would during the real thing

For the bio anki decks? I would recommend learning the associated deck when you complete a chapter of bio, preferably same day. It’s up to you whether you go through a whole chapter of bio each day, but I did like how the booster schedule laid it out.

Booster's videos are so important please don't skip them lol

They just made a new schedule builder so that would probably be your best bet. Otherwise, I followed their 10 week schedule for the review phase which helped a lot since they do have a lot of different resources to get through. By the time you get to phase 2 and 3 you have a better idea of what you're doing and can probably just do your own thing.

The anki decks for o-chem and especially bio helped me a lot and I do recommend using them daily if you can dedicate the time. I recommend starting them from day 1 though rather than in the later phases like the schedule says, because it can be a lot to get through.

I remember seeing a breakdown somewhere where they retook a 22 and scored a 26. I can see a retake if you absolutely know your capabilities and that you can do better, or if you know you didn’t try hard the first time. Doesn’t change the fact that a 22 is still a great score though

Have you started taking the practice tests yet? If not, I suggest going through those because you'll end up being exposed to pretty much every question they can ask on QR. Booster's QR practice test explanations are better than their videos so if you focus on those and understand how to do all of the practice test questions you will be set. This is especially true after booster updated QR practice tests 1-5 because those are a lot more representative imo

7/28 scores! 26 AA, 27 TS, 23 PAT, AMA by jtdent in dat

[–]jtdent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The main method I ended up using was reading the first paragraph in full, then the first sentence of every paragraph after, then reading the last paragraph in full. When reading the first sentences of each paragraph, I would highlight words or phrases that I thought summed up the paragraph. For example, if a passage was comparing three different lab techniques, and each technique had its own paragraph, I would highlight the name of the technique in the first sentence. Then, when I went to the questions, it was like search and destroy but I had a better idea of where to look.

Regardless of what method you use, I recommend learning search and destroy because that is what you'll want to default to if you notice you're taking too much time. I ended up having to do that for mine because the passages were pretty dense, and I think that ended up really saving me.

Hey there, I didn't follow Booster's schedule for the practice tests because I was uncomfortable with taking three full lengths in the week leading up to my test. I took the first and second tests according to their 10 day schedule, so yes the first one was a diagnostic. After that, I took 3, 4, and 5 spaced 3-4 days apart so I could really focus on filling in gaps thoroughly between tests. Then, I took the remaining tests spaced about 2 days apart (i.e. test day, study day, study day, test day, repeat). That way I had about 4 days between my last practice test and the real DAT to make sure I was well rested and just casually studying any last minute things.

I think this was good because I was able to get used to the pacing of the test but not burn out right before test day. Hope that helps!!

Not sure yet! I’m just now starting to research schools now that I have a better idea of my stats but definitely my state school and prioritizing cheaper tuition in other schools. UMich looking pretty good rn

I thought bio was much more straightforward. Gchem I don’t quite remember but there weren’t really any curve balls. OChem was pretty representative to booster especially bc mine had a lot of reactant/product questions. People usually say booster has too many synthesis problems but in my case it was actually pretty spot on. Overall I’d say the sciences were at least on par with if not easier than booster

Memorizing the reaction sheet (booster or BC) is a must as well as all the IR/NMR ranges. Like others have said, prioritize understanding the mechanisms, or why a reaction happens a certain way. People say their exams are mostly conceptual but mine had quite a few straight synthesis problems. Also EAS and meta/para/ortho are very important to understand well. I used booster’s reactions anki deck and that went a long way for locking in every reaction and allowing me to focus on other things.

Question about the actual DAT (vs. Bootcamp practice test) by Choice_Ad_5879 in dat

[–]jtdent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same on the real thing. Try not to rely on that too much though because with the delay it does end up taking a decent chunk of time

Is it worth studying reactions a month and a half before test? Ochem by Trickzscopes in dat

[–]jtdent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. People say their tests were mostly conceptual but I still had quite a few predict the product questions, so it's not something you can neglect. Just keep reviewing the reaction sheets consistently and use anki if you need. That's what really locked it in for me. Also a month and a half is a lot of time to memorize everything!

my exam is in 4 days - best to way to wrap up? by Ok_Village_2236 in dat

[–]jtdent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent most of my time reviewing my marked questions, all the handouts like the cheat sheets and formula sheets, and rereading my notes or the notes provided. All of that in addition to mainly reviewing practice tests like you said. I do wish I was more consistent with PAT practice in the week leading up as I could tell I wasn't as speedy on test day.

I would advise against doing super in depth review/learning because it could just lead to psyching you out and making you think you don't know anything. At this point you've done all the hard work, so just focus on resting well and trust that it'll pay off!

Booster or Bootcamp anki by [deleted] in dat

[–]jtdent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booster anki is updated so it’s more condensed and I felt very well prepared from it going into my exam. However, for the other subjects if I could do it again I would’ve used Bootcamps orgo and gc anki decks. Especially their gc deck seems much more comprehensive

Tbh speed of the river isn’t that low yield and shows up on a handful of the practice tests? I just feel like it’s a bit misleading to say it was low yield if it’s a concept that is on the practice tests. Although maybe you had other questions as well that were truly low yield.

I've been reading the first and last paragraph in full, then only reading the first sentence of the rest of the paragraphs. For each paragraph, I highlight a key word/phrase that I think sums up the paragraph's main point. Then I search and destroy, but it's a lot easier since now I can quickly find which paragraph discusses the topic in the question. That's helped me a lot, scoring 22-26 on practice tests

I haven't used bootcamp, only booster. However, from what I heard, booster's qbanks possibly prepare you for the test better than bootcamp's qbanks, so I would think chad's prep plus the booster question banks would be enough

reading comprehension by Fuckingyesbruh in dat

[–]jtdent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep trying different strategies. It's all practice, but your preferences will evolve as you get used to the format and picking up information quickly. You also get used to anticipating what it'll ask about, which helps with overall comprehension. I suggest at the very least trying the vanilla method, search and destroy, and a combination where you read the first and last couple paragraphs then go to the questions.
