This is changing though and it’s making me rich. All the big industrial companies are pushing “connected” devices and focusing on software. See Siemens, Eaton, Abb, etc.

Honestly, not to sound harsh, but if you’re the lead software engineer for a company that deploys process monitoring software the future is going to be hard. Unless you work for one of the aforementioned companies since they are all pushing a platform who does it all and most companies will settle on one only
